Mike Antonucci from Mercury News got the chance to interview Nintendo of America President Reggie Fils-Aime Wednesday night. Reggie answered a couple of questions and while none of the answers were earth shattering revelations, some were intriguing answers. Below is a break down of the interview courtesy of Mercury News.

--------------------------------------------------

On the frustration experienced by consumers who haven’t been able to find/buy a Wii: “We are all acutely aware of the issue and we all realize we have a limited period of time to address the issue,'’ said Fils-Aime.
  • Because he understands that protracted frustration takes a toll on the public’s perception of Nintendo, even if the Wii’s popularity continues to grow.
  • Ultimately, Nintendo will have to be judged on how well it addresses the problem — in other words, how soon it puts more Wii consoles in the retail pipeline. But in my opinion, Fils-Aime’s answer was more consumer-sympathetic than the answers I’ve gotten in the past from game companies on this kind of issue.
On the new, downsized E3 that’s being organized: Fils-Aime said he considers the revamped event as important as the massive, defunct E3. He said Nintendo would continue the practice of holding a major press conference, and that he thought the new E3 would have more of a North American focus.

--------------------------------------------------

Again, not a lot of information has been given but we do know that Nintendo is aware of the frustration that many people are having of trying to get a Nintendo Wii and not being able to do so. Hopefully there will be more shipments coming soon or maybe a step up in production to meet the current demands. I thought it was a bit interesting how Reggie said that the new E3 would focus more on North America. This is interesting to me because a lot of titles come out first in Japan and then are later brought to the U.S. Does this mean that these titles will not be shown or talked about? Will we only see games that are bound for North America only? Only time will tell and I hope we learn more from the keynote speeches tomorrow.
