Since the launch of the Nintendo Wii in November of 2006, many gamers have felt that IGN.com has been a little too critical of Wii games. We saw some of our favorite titles come and go, and with that scores that we felt were unfair.

It seems that a new wind is on the horizon, because a new hands-on article for Super Paper Mario is out, and IGN loves the game. Perhaps the tide has turned for Nintendo Wii games, or maybe we're through with launch titles that left us wanting much much more. Super Paper Mario comes out to play on April 09, 2007, but until, read the IGN article for yourself and dream of not only what might be, but apparently...what is.

April cannot come soon enough. Hands-on impressions of Nintendo's spectacular Wii platformer/RPG.

March 7, 2007 - Nintendo of America was on-hand at the Game Developers Conference 2007 with a handful of playable Wii titles, including the anticipated platformer/RPG Super Paper Mario. We took the gorgeously stylized sleeper for a spin and walked away completely dazzled. The title, which was originally planned for GameCube before it made the jump to Wii, is a sequel to the hit GCN game Paper Mario and bears many similarities to its predecessor. For one, it is brought to life with a quasi-2D style made possible with cardboard cut-out visuals. Mario is literally paper thin as he walks through colorful storyboarded environments complete with blocky clouds and skinny enemies. In addition, the title is neither a dedicated platformer nor RPG, but a combination of the two. That being said, in our experience Super Paper Mario leans closer to the former than the latter, as some of the turn-based battles of previous games have been thrown to the wind in favor or new real-time action. But the commonalities seem to end there because Super Paper Mario takes the 2D/3D relationship several steps farther and really bathes itself in new and improved play mechanics, which are deeper and more engaging than ever before, even as it oozes enough style to satiate any desire for nostalgic presentation.

I never even got the chance to play the original, was it any good?
well, if your talking about the "real" original, then that will be coming out on the VC soon. I owned/own Paper Mario: The Thousand Years door, and yes it's a very cool game.

If your curious about any of the games, , go to gametrailers.com and check out some video.
I really can't wait to get my hands on this game it's gonna be so friggin' sweet!
Agreed Alex, and I can't wait till you beat it, and send your copy to me Smile
lol, well I certainly am gonna review it!
I'm sorry, you misunderstood...when your done with your copy of the game, send it my way..we'll pass it around like a chain letter Toungue
Lol, o I understood. Wink
That'd be one chain letter I'd actually play but yeah I'm getting this. It's a no brainer for me and I loved the other versions. This one looks fantastic and the changing between 2D and 3D worlds should be a blast.
Image what happens when we go into an actual fight, we can do so much stuff with that Wii mote Wink
My next wii purchase for sure. Love everything about old school mario, and level 1-1 shown in the tut has some nice throwbacks to level design...
I agree, to me at least, this is what gaming is all about.
For sure, I personally think the graphics are stunning. Just goes to show that graphics don't have to be life-like to look damn good!
Your life doesn't look like that of Paper Mario games?!?!?!?!?

It would be cool if one could photo shop a pic of themselves and create the paper mario look.
This games reminds me of Wario Ware graphics wise. They are off the wall graphics but look sweet. I'll take these graphics with great gameplay over any awesome graphics with shallow gameplay any day.

Oh i'm sure the photoshop thing could be done...

OMG...I've seen screen shots of the game and loved it. I figured it would be very similar to Thousand Years Door, but last night I downloaded the different vids for it on videogametrailers.com and am floored by the new addition of the 3D mode....AMAZING.

A MUST BUY
I'm definately going to try out the older version, and probably end up picking up this version too.
