I dunno if anyone else has posted this, if they have sorry, but I was reading some of the news on SSBB and I came across this article.
Solid Snake, a confirmed fighter in Brawl, is the first third-party, playable character in Smash Bros. history. According to 1-UP.com, Brawl director Masashiro Sakurai stated he wants a roster 40 deep, with 1-2 more non-Nintendo characters.
Sounds interesting. That's almost twice what SSBM had.

In Smash you can't stick a bajillion different transformations of one character and go "ZOMG! HE'S NEW!!!11!"

But that's only 25 characters. Leaving 15 to be new. Minus Solid Snake and that's 14 new characters! Plus I highly doubt the entire Melee cast will return.

Why drop anyone else? They are all actual individual characters? If Sakurai drops them he'd be stupid. Especially if he wants 40 characters.
Well people who did whine are pretty silly. I would have preferred to have Doc as a clone than never be able to play as him at all.
I'm not sure if I would. I would kind of rather have it be one character per identity (one mario, one link)
Don't get me wrong, I main Doc and think he's the most fun out of any of the characters, but I just think that for Brawl there shouldn't be more than one character per identity.
And if that results in having less characters... then your happy?!
You mean there'd only be one character per franchise? Or only one character per name, like there could only be one Mario, and no Mario and Dr. Mario?
