Though there wasn't much shock involved when Rockstar Games confirmed Grand Theft Auto 4 would be coming to both Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, Rockstar's controversial franchise drove an enormous amount of PlayStation 2's popularity the generation before -- could this affect the PS3 going forward? Sony exec. Phil Harrison spoke with a number of bloggers on the subject, including IGN, and didn't seem worried:
"I don't think PS3 has the install base to support Rockstar's investment in GTA IV on its own," said Harrison. Reinventing a sandbox-oriented series on next-generation platforms can't be a cheap endeavor, so while PS3 plays catch-up with Microsoft in terms of userbase, Rockstar must unsurprisingly cover its bases and ensure they're reaching the maximum amount of gamers when GTA4 releases this October.
Both versions will be receiving exclusive downloadable content when the game drops in the fall -- could we be seeing future exclusives in this form?
