I came across an article over at GameSpot telling ten things that the PS3 needs to change to make it more attractive. It's a very long article so I've decided to just list the ten things they mentioned and you can click on the link that follows to read the entire article.

1. Improve Developer Support to Secure More Exclusives
2. Fix Online Fundamentals Before Going Home
3. Standardize Online Features for Multiplayer Games
4. Reconsider the Price
5. Fix Web Browsing and Media Management
6. Make Accomplishments Matter
7. Change the Way We Play Games
8. Experiment With Content Delivery
9. Provide Solid Hardware and Product Support
10. Start Releasing Good News

Well there you have it. If there are any suggestions that you don't understand then read the article and that should clear it up for you.

So do you agree or disagree with what has been mentioned? Which parts do you agree or disagree with? Which one do you think would have the greatest impact?

These are the things I think Sony needs to do.

People should be able to access to XMB when playing a game. The PS3 should be able to do background downloading while you're playing a game.
Sony needs to standardize their Online and force developers to use their interface, as Mircosoft has done with Live. They also need to force developers to add Accomplishments (or whatever Sony is calling them these days) to their games, especially now that Home will have a Trophy room for them.

If Sony did all of this, which is basically what Live has done, then the PS3 would be well worth the $599 price tag. As it stands, I still have a few doubts about getting one in the near future, but perhaps by the end of the year, we'll see at least a few of these concerns addressed.

The article should have been named "10 things Sony needs to improve on with the PS3". I hear there is alot of fuss over at GameSpot forums about that article also.
yeah the download thing is not cool . Im also posting from my PS3 now and it needs to be improved.
I pretty much agree with those 10 things. I think the biggest thing that not only Sony needs to do to make their system more attractive and move into the new age of gaming... is INNOVATION. I can't say it enough. It doesn't necessarily have to be in the way a game is played, like Nintendo has done, but do something different. Anything really. I've played PS3, and it really doesn't *feel* like a new system. It feels more like the same old stuff with better graphics.

I guess most people would argue that the only thing a console can really do different is change the control scheme, like Nintendo did. But, I don't think that's true. There are a lot of ways to change the way people play games. For instance, XBL is a big success, because people love playing games together rather than alone. If Sony can find it's own niche like these, then I'm sure they would have a system that more people would want to own.
I think the PS3 needs more killer exclusives like they have coming out near the end of the year. The price is a bit high and it might drop with some changes to the system. If they took out the blu ray format and went with HD or DVD then the price could have been much lower. I think that forcing the blu ray technology on consumers is wrong and drove the price sky high. Sure the discs can hold more but how many games will ever come close to filling it up? Yes, it does look nice but does it look so much better than HD for the price it is charging?

I think with a lower price I would be more willing to buy it. Plain and simple for me the change needs to be the price. I don't care about browsing on my PS3 as I wouldn't do that to begin with. I want to have great games, great gameplay, and the ability to play Online.
agreed, right now we've seen that games that have come out for both the 360 and PS3 don't look all that different so Sony will have to have exclusives that make us want to buy their system.

I agree with you there, about exclusives, but I don't think that would be enough to push PS3 sales numbers any higher.

As far as BluRay goes, I agree also that they should not have tried to push BluRay so soon, when it's still such an expensive technology. Sony's reasoning was that they want the PS3 to be a system that will last consumers for the next 10 years. Whether or not their plan will work, we don't know. But one thing we do know is that over time things take up more disk space, especially games. So I can agree with Sony, at least in that aspect, that a larger media is a good idea, when your plans are to maintain the same console for 10 years. Though I still think it was too soon. Personally, I would have waited until NEXT generation to introduce BluRay into a game console, when it's cheaper to produce. (And 10 year life span for a console? I don't know where they dreamed up that theory....)

The PS4 or whatever name they use will be out before there so called ten year plan is up. Nintendo didn't use HD this time because right now the majority of households don't have an HD t.v. but they say the next system will have HD, which by then more people will have HD T.V.s as well. I think Sony jumped the gun with Blu Ray and if you look at how many people are willing to go out and buy a blu ray player you won't see many. I have no intentions to changing from my DVD player to a blu ray player anytime soon.
Let's remember this:

PS2-->CPU, 128-bit "Emotion Engine" clocked at 294 MHz
RELEASED IN U.S. on October 26, 2000

PS3-->CPU, 3.2 GHz Cell Broadband Engine with 1 PPE and 7 SPEs
RELEASED IN U.S. on November 17, 2006

Since the PS2 is still selling AMAZING games 7 years after it's introduction, and since the new PS3 has vastly more capabilities, I don't think it's so hard to image a PS3 being around for 10, since it's little brother PS2 has been around for almost 7.

Once Microsoft drops their next console, which will be in less than 10 years, the PS3 will not be able to cope with it. Besides, I remember hearing a rumor that they were already working on the PS4 a while back. It may go the distance but I just don't see it happening.
Good lord people....every console maker is already working on the NEXT console before they even release their present one. They just have to. Look at how long Nintendo has been working on the Wii and yet it's still hard to get that system.

As for your comment about Microsoft dropping it's next system before the 10 year period...Firstly why would they have to, the 360 have tons of power, and with a larger hard drive could be around for a very long time.

Remember also, the PS2 is still selling very strong even after the release of the Next Gen consoles Smile
Once the PS3 picks up steam it will be a force to be reckoned with. I have the Nintendo Wii. I don't own an XBox360 or PS3 but from my perspective I see things slowly changing. I may get flamed for my next comment but I'm only stating my opinion on what I think. I predict that the PS3 will eventually beat out the Wii. *puts on his flame resistant suit* The reason I say this is due to new information I've come into, which I can't disclose now but you will be seeing it very soon. I had my Nintendo fanboy blinders on for a long time and I took the time recently to take them off and look at everything.
