A lot of people have been waiting anxiously to see what kind of Online support Nintendo will have. A lot of the Wii's future success seems to be riding on how well their online play works. Nintendo seems to be taking it very seriously as well and have formed a partnership with GameSpy to make sure everything goes smoothly. GameSpy sent out a press release yesterday announcing that they will provide "multiplayer technology" to 3rd party publishers for the Nintendo Wii. Some of the functions will be friend rosters, matchmaking, and ranking data, which is quite similar to what the XBox Live service is doing. Nintendo has also said that they will provide additional services such as in-game chatting and global competitions. I for one am very glad to see this happening and it gives me hope that Nintendo may just get it right after all. I know a lot of people have been worried about "friend codes" getting in the way but this may not be the case after all. Here's to hoping they get it right.
