The Devil May Cry series has been around for a while now. Recent news shows that #4 is coming out for the PS3 and the Xbox 360. Xbox owners are going ape-sh!t over this fact, which is fine, but here's the thing...
I had Devil May Cry for the Playstation 2 and really liked it. #2 wasn't polished and the critics were many, I personally never laid eyes on #3. So is Devil May Cry 4 getting publicity because the video game big wigs are telling you that it's a must have game or because it is?
Is there artificial buzz for a game that use to be great and now giving it a Next Gen makeover is suppose to reinvent it? I'm curious to hear what you think.
I wonder how many people on here actually owned that game though?
Not I.
But then again, I got a PS2 fairly late, and didn't really bother with many games for it.
As I posted in the XBox360 thread, this has got to hurt Sony. One of the things that many of us were talking about that Sony has to have in order for it to be successful was exclusive games. Devil May Cry is a huge series for the Playstation and now Xbox360 owners or possible buyers could buy the 360 and still get their DMC fix.
That wasn't really why I asked the question though...I never knew there was a Devil May Cry 3, and I try to keep up on video game news. I'm wondering if the companies involved are pushing this as a must have, instead of the fans or gamers demanding another installment of Devil May Cry.
I think it has kind of a cult-following. It doesn't have a massive following like say Halo or Grand Theft Auto, but there is still a large group who live and die by the series, similar to say Resident Evil (especially before RE4) or Dragon Ball Z for example.
As far as critical acclaim goes, here are the stats from gamerankings:
Devil May Cry: 92.2%
Devil May Cry 2: 72.3%
Devil May Cry 3: 84.2% (a special edition was released later that sits at 88.0%)
The first one sold upwards of 4 million, not sure about the others.
Devil May Cry 1 is one of the best games ever created. Even in these modern days its still fun to play.
Devil May Cry 2 is terrible, so bad... should never be looked at.
Devil May Cry 3 was awesome. Seriously, such a fun combat system, cool levels and a challenging difficulty level. Great game.
