Wii hacking???

Ok, I woke up this morning to find my wii slot was pulsing blue, which kinda freaked me out. Then I remembered this meant it had been updated or something. Now I'm really freaked out. Every internet connection near me that the wii can pick up is locked with password protection, and the one I used on Sunday (to update my system) is over 15 miles away. So I boot up and discover that I have 2 new Mii's, a person I added yesterday (offline) is now bolded, my weather channel was online (running & updated as of today), the vote thing had been updated, I got a message from nintendo about the replacement wrist straps, yet I couldn't go into the shops or view the news. Does the Wii leach a small bit just enough to do small crap from existing passworded networks, or is it catching a remote signal now and then that doesn't show up on the access point screen? Another possibility (for my limited wifi experience) is that a dude that likes to whack it at 3 am gets online only for an hour or so each night to look at porn, then shuts off the network??? I thought there could be a delay, but how would my Wii bold someone's name who I added yesterday offline and haven't since been back to the hot spot? I'm pretty sure he didn't have my wii number until after I had already taken my wii offline.

Also, does the light on your power button turn yellow after connecting to the internet/wii connect 24? I swear it was red before. And also does it ever change back under any circumstances?
First, the power button is that yellowish/orange when you have WiiConnect 24 enabled and it doesn't matter if you have a connection close or not.

I don't know how many routers you have your Wii set up to use, but you mentioned how the internet connections around you are password protected (good idea), but mine are too, but my Wii has been given access to use them anytime it wants.

I wouldn't call this Wii-hacking just yet. I'd say that if there really isn't a connection anywhere close for the Wii to use or that it's allowed to use, then there a cool innovation that at least gives you updates, but I really think the answer is probably much simpler then that. Imagine the law suits if the Wii was able to break into people's secure internet connections. Nintendo may in some ways be like God, but they're not stupid Smile
haunted...bwahahaha
On any given minute, there are up to 4 internet connections in my apt building my wii will recognize.  All are locked, I don't know their passwords.  So presumably they are not a source.

I have my wii set up for one wifi connection, but it is 15-20 miles from my apt.  That connection is open (not passworded).  I have not set my wii up for anything else.

I could see delayed messages, and even delayed Mii's showing up, but how did I get an add from a friend who didn't have my number til 2 days after I took it back offline?  Also how'd the weather get updated at 3 am?

("Wii hacking" was a joke btw, and perhaps it is haunted by the ghost of a computer nerd)
I'm betting it's just an unsecured network that the Wii picks up occasionally and assumes it's the same connection as the one 15 miles away.
So the late night "whacking it guy" is the most probable answer. lol
I doubt if your father has anything to do with it....What joker was saying is that somewhere there's an unsecured network...I don't know if you live in an apartment or in a housing development with lots of houses close by, but somewhere is an open internet connection the Wii is probably hooking up to.

I'm guessing it's probably a business or an apartment complex office that uses the connection via a router, but doesn't have the intelligence to lock it down.
Thats crazy.........
I think it may be haunted!

I agree with Joker. If the unsecured network you've used (15-20 miles away) has a default SSID, something like "linksys" or such, then if any other unsecured network with the same SSID pops in range, the Wii (any wireless device really) will assume it's the same network and automagicly connect to it.

I agree. Sounds like ghosts to me. Didn't anyone see "Pulse"? I say get some holy water and wash your Wii in it. If it stops working then blame the ghost and return it to Nintendo.

Ok, so it may be just another signal that is weak but you can pick it up sometimes for short periods and that's why you didn't see it.

Nah, ghosts sounds better. Toungue

It could be the weak signal, but I've checked with a laptop (with greater range) as well right after I received a Mii and a weather channel update. I didn't find a single unsecured network. I don't really care what's causing it so long as it doesn't go away. Smile
Lol, yeah I would think the same. Sometimes different wireless systems can pick up things differently. I don't know why but maybe it has something to do with the frequency or whatever. Someone would more know-how could probably explain it better.
