You'd think after all the lawsuits Nintendo has faced with its new Wii console it would get pretty sick and tired of going to court. You'd probably be right. Now a company in Europe that created 'WeeMees' that look sorta similar to Miis announced a lawsuit against Nintendo being handled by the Supreme Court in the U.S.

A typical WeeMee

However, they decided to drop the lawsuit. Problem is? Nintendo WON'T let them.

[I]n the face of disclosure obligations and discovery demands targeted at getting to the bottom of its unsupported claims of 'confusion' and damage, WeeWorld has abruptly asked this Court to let it dismiss this case without prejudice, freeing it from having to reveal the lack of substance to its claims, while allowing it to hold over Nintendo the threat of future US litigation if it is unsuccessful pursuing those claims in European courts, as it now intends.

In other words, Nintendo wants them to pay all court fees and fines. Namely $400,000. Stupid move by this WeeWorld place eh?

Why is it always these random companies that file stupid lawsuits?

Lol. Owned.
LOLOLOLOL

They has been PWNED! XD
Stupid little companies, just trying to dig themselves into a hole, and die.
I think the reason why Nintendo isn't letting them drop it, is so that it will show to other companies that you don't wanna mess with the big N, and less companies will be willing to take that risk.
they're not trying to dig a hole. they're trying to make a name for themselves and get some money the easy way. fortunately, or unfortunately however you look at it, the most often fail miserably

EXTREMELY brilliant of Nintendo to keep the suit going. if WeeWorld fails in the hearing to provide enough evidence that Nintendo stole the idea, they'll have to not only pay the court fees, but Nintendo couldn't get sued again by this company for this issue by the Double Jeopardy law, which has nothing to do with a TV gameshow
They cant make a name for themselves if there going against one of the biggest Companies in gaming.
"Any publicity is good publicity..."
Not when your company is going to lose how much money again?

Lol, it has nothing to do with a gameshow but it doesn't apply here nomad. This is a civil case, and Double Jeopardy only applies to criminal cases. If I'm accused of stealing and the jury finds me not guilty, I can't be tried again, but if I'm sued for an idea and found not guilty because of lack of evidence, I can be tried again if they found more evidence proving they were right.

So yes, Nintendo can be sued again by the same company if they find more evidence.

Yes, but I believe if they cannot bring enough to the table this time, they never will be able to. They planned to pull out and attack Nintendo in Europe instead, while holding the "threat" of future US litigation (which Nintendo would avoid by giving them a lot of money or buying them out, they would hope), however, Nintendo is pursuing the case so that the company will be too discouraged (and broke) to try this again.
Stupid move by WeeMee. Checkmate by Nintendo.
Oh My God....*sigh* well at least its now Nintendo thats sueing that other ******* small company.

All these stupid small companies are just digging a hole, shooting themselves, and missing falling the hole, it's just annouying.
I wonder what will become of PS3's online utopia?

You're right, but due to Double Jeopardy applying only to criminal cases, they're open to try again. I don't see why you would, but maybe in 5 years if they truly believe they can beat Nintendo, they can give it another attempt.

They bluffed and Nintendo called their bluff so now they have to pay. Basically, that's what happened. I haven't had the chance to play cards in a while, maybe it's time to.
