With the revelation that the black Xbox 360, also known as "Zephyr" is in fact real (the image above is a dev kit, by the way), Engadget has gathered some concrete details from a trusted source. Some of these details were uncovered earlier this morning, but some questions -- particularly the notion of built in WiFi -- are brand new. See the fresh details below.
First of all, the black Xbox 360 will be officially known as the Xbox 360 Elite.
The Elite will be manufactured in limited quantities, possibly a few hundred thousand.
Everything included with the unit will be black, including the case, controller, and Live headset. The packaging will be new as well.
The Elite will cost $479 and will be sold alongside Premium and Core packs.
Eventually, a white version of the Elite will replace Xbox 360 Premium packs. Presumably, this will happen shortly after the Elite is sold out. Once this happens, Premiums will include the 120 GB HDD and HDMI.
There is no solid date for the Elite-to-Premium transition, though it is estimated to happen late summer or early fall.
The Elite runs cooler than the current Premium, but it is unknown if it takes advantage of 65nm chips.
Prices could remain the same when Premiums convert to 120GB/HDMI, but a price cut may still occur once the 65nm chips are implemented.
The HD-DVD player will definitely not be bundled with the Elite and Microsoft stands by its claim that it has no plans to ever integrate an HD-DVD drive into the Xbox 360.
There are no plans to integrate WiFi into the Elite or future Premium packs.
So there you have it, everything we know about the Elite until Microsoft decides to send out an official press release. Now that you know all the details (especially the bit about the Elite running cooler), do you plan on picking up an Xbox 360 Elite?

Wow all I can say is that looks so freaking HOT... I want a 360 now sorry Wii

i like the matte finish. i was worried that it would have a glossy look to it.

interesting info. nice find.
Microsoft is making a joke out of Sony. 120GB 360 Elite for $479 or a 60GB PS3 for $600. DecisionsBig Grin but I like how it looks, you can never go wrong with color black.
but one only plays DVDs and the other plays Blu-Ray discs.
But the 360 plays HD-DVDs, and there is still the battle between HDDVD and BluRay, we will have to wait and see who 'wins' Toungue
sure, it'll play HD-DVD's... if you buy the $200 add-on.
i like it but im not going to purchase it. i read the the 120 gb hd can be bought seperately for "under $200"
The only thing of real interest here is the bigger hard drive. The black looks pretty slick but then again if it were originally released in black and they came out with a white version we would be saying the same thing (see: Nintendo Wii). After all, most game consoles in the last 15 years were black (Genesis, N64, Xbox, PS2, Cube (some), Saturn, PS3, Jaguar, PSP, etc)
I'll probably pick myself up one of these.
I would get one, but I'm not going to. Still looks pretty cool though.
Sounds like Mushroom Kingdom Hearts all over again.

EDIT

I = Owned.
That's cool! I don't have an Xbox360 but if I do decide to buy one then I'd like to get this one though there will be limited quantities.
That makes the controller look nearly identical to the original xBox. xD

Still looks cool though.
lol

I would probably get one of these if I had the money.
*merging llyod's thread with Wenis' thread.*
mmmmmm zephyr
I may actually buy a 360 now...BluRay ShmuRay...HD TiVo is good enough for me...
With only a couple hundred thousand coming out, think about how much they are gonna be selling on Ebay rofl.
I knew this was true! haha, I'm glad I held off on buying an xbox.
