I was kind of hoping that this was an early April Fool's joke or a bad dream and I still hope it is. Nintendo finally responded to the many emails they have been receiving regarding friend codes being used in Wii Games. A representative of Nintendo of America has responded to Wii-Network and had the following to say. "I can confirm that the Friend Code system in the Wi-Fi Connection (WFC) service for Wii will be the same as it was for the Nintendo DS, meaning game-specific Friend Codes and a separate Friend Roster are used in each game where players can play with identified friends. As with Nintendo DS, the system was created to ensure the gaming environment is kept fun for everyone.
We have heard from various others like you letting us know how they felt regarding Nintendo’s implementation of Friend Codes in the Wi-Fi Connection service for Wii. I want you to know that we appreciate your passion and concern. Let me assure you that your concerns have been heard and will be forwarded along. As always, keep an eye on our website (
http://www.nintendo.com) for the latest developments in Wi-Fi gaming as they are made available."
Some people may not be bothered about this but some will be really irate after reading this. Why hasn't Nintendo learned from their past mistakes of using friend codes? Why torture us again on the Wii by making us enter long codes and waste a lot of time just to play online? It this does turn out to be true, and right now it's definitely looking that way, then how will this affect all of you? Will you not play online just to show Nintendo that you won't play by their rules or will you suck it up and enter the codes and grumble later?
Nintendo rep confirms game-specific Friend Codes for Wii - Go Nintendo
damn shame

WAAAA!!! D:
Bleh I know I'll still be playing online and will still be grumbling about this though.
such a big company with so many that are connected to it, and yet they cannot adapt the ideas on how to do online gaming right...it just blows my mind. If the Wii Online is going to be so freaking restricted and insanely not fun, then I will swear to never again buy a nintendo console. F***in idiotic
If they are doing everything like the DS I don't see why they needed to bring in any help to start with. Let's all start pinching ourselves and hopefully this bad dream will be all over...
*ouch! Damn.... still here
wait....whats the big deal if there game specific? i dont mind...
I don't mind just playing with my friends and people on wiiloaded but come on Nintendo!
WHATS THE BIG DEAL?!!?!?!!
Personally, I don't care. Now for the general public, Nintendo is being classic Nintendo. What we say is best for all!!! Carts are better than discs! No backlight on handheld game devices is the way to go! Online play is insignificant! HD is not a factor! Processing power is not a factor!
Nintendo needs to get its head out of its ass and start listening to their customers. This (if left unchanged this generation) will be another mistake in the long line of classic Nintendo mistakes. It seems like the only company that gives a damn is Microsoft....*shudders*.
If you actually think about it, its not really THAT bad. I mean, just think of it as added someone with a name of 16 characters. And I am meaning it hopefully won't be bad, seeing as Nintendo makes online lobbies to play with random people, instead of friends only or w/e.
wait, i think i get it....
does this mean we can only play against people who know our code D:
DAMN THEM!
Yes that is exactly what it means, you now understand our frustration.
WHATS THE BIG DEAL?!!?!?!!
CAPS LOCK CRUISE CONTROL FOR COOL
*ahem*
Anyway, anybody else ready for a PO'd Dume rant on the WL convo?
:D
WAIT!
we can still play against random 3 people right? plz say yes!!!
edit: just no loby? right....*sad
I was kinda also hoping to play Brawl online with 6 total players :3 but Nintendo would think of that as sheer blasphemy

My hatred for the friend code system is starting to come to a boil again....
Although I hate the Friend Code System, I hate being cussed out by a 13-year old on XBL while my gf is around even more.
This has nothing to do with some punk kid swearing at me. It's just about ease and convenience. It's going to be too much trouble to add a different friend code in for each game. We've already got a code for consoles, why not use that with online games? And if you're worried about finding some 13 year old who constantly swears then just take off the headset (if there will even be one for Wii).
I'm getting real close to writting an angry email to Nintendo.
I'm not going to stop playing a game because someone doesn't know how to shut up.
