Well since we always get sales data from the US, UK, and Australia, and since I know there are a lot of Canadians who visit here, finally some solid news on how things are going in the game industry in the Great White North:
Canadian videogame sales data
Or if you're too lazy to read the whole thing:
- record year in Canada for videogame sales in 2006 at $933 million
- sales through February of 2007 already up 61% over 2006 at $152 million
- Wii is currently the top selling console in Canada, followed by the PlayStation 2, Nintendo DS, Xbox 360, PSP, GameBoy Advance, and PlayStation 3, in that order.
- 11 of the 20 top-selling games in February on Nintendo systems, 5 on Xbox 360, and 4 on Sony systems (only 1 on PS3).
I guess its no surprise really, as I seen hundreds of people lined up outside stores here to get a Wii at launch, and weeks following launch. Not to mention that we have to wait in very cold weather up here (it was -33 C (-28 F) while I was lined up at Best Buy to get mine in late November, and there were people waiting in line for hours).
