Full Version: Sony's getting desperate...

This is a wii-oriented site, if you have a problem with the popular opinion of this site then keep it to yourself please. It helps no one if you disagree, and you're only satisfying yourself because you get to voice your opinion on a feckless matter. Telling people what they can't do, and will do is only going to entice flames, and we don't want that right? However, if you feel the need to project your opinion for whatever reason, and you previse that it will indeed cause some sort of argument (or for the people who offer excuses, "debate") then at least try to explain how you feel in a more serene manner. Thank you.

plot twist
Humble apologies if I had offended anyone. I thought of my statement above as little more than a humorous observation (though I believe it holds at least some truth).

There is a strong negative sentiment towards Sony around these parts, sometimes justified, sometimes not. At times, it is even hard for me to be objective. You see, there is a little hate for Sony in all of us. But I try, and that is all that I ask of you, too.

I guess Sony isn't that desperate after all, considering the sales.

that is so true. i want to hear someone try and justify otherwise

you wanna here a justification? Fine. Nintendo DIDN'T HAVE TO GIVE AWAY FREAKIN' TV TO SELL THEIR CONSOLES! PEOPLE WALK UP AND SNATCH UP WIIS FASTER THAN THEY CAN UNLOAD THEM FROM THE DELIVERY TRUCK! Sony just used the TV as a ploy to get more people to come back to see if they'll get any free stuff.

Let's all take it easy, I think each of the companies would give something away to help sell a system...Think of last gen...no one bundled anything with a system, but now nintendo gives away Wii Play (i'm glad they did), but I'm just saying.

Anyhow, once again I would have been happy to take the TV.
I would have gladly accepted a free TV with a PS3. Who would say no?!

dont get me wrong that i hate nintendo or something, i've always loved nintendo i've got my own wii and  in my school i'm always defending them, but the point is if nintendo gave away free tvs is there anyone here that would say nintendo are desperate

I agree with Nightmare and Ihavewiiproblems. Lets just say it was Nintendo who was giving away free tvs with their console. What would you say?
"Nintendo's desperate! Just look at them! Giving stuff away! Free stuff, of all things! Dispicable! They even tried to give me some of the free stuff! The devil with them!"
I think not. I'd gladly accept a free tv fom any of the companies.

You can call the shortage of Wiis a marketing ploy. Since there are no Wiis on shelves, it makes people think its a great system, why else wouldn't they be available? So people will buy it, its got to be good right? Its so hard to find.
"Nintendo's messing with our minds to sell consoles! They're desperate!"
(I'm not saying it isn't good btw, I'm just giving an example of how some people are reacting to Sony giving away free TVs.)

A marketing ploy, is a marketing ploy. If it works, don't diss it.

Plot twist!

If they have the money to give away tvs, why wouldn't they just lower the price of 1000 consoles in those stores, instead of giving away 100 free HDTVs? How much is each HDTV? 1000$? You can take off 100$ from each console.. wow... thats a lot of consoles...

Think they would sell more with that ploy then the TV one? I know I do. Can't say I'd prefer it, but if I didn't manage to get a TV, I'd gladly get the 100$ off the console.
I"m guessing the pitch is...wait will you see the PS3 on this 1080p Sony television set, and then the idea is to have them tell all their friends and such....I've said it 12, yes 12 times now, but I would gladly take a TV like the one they gave out. I would have been the guy standing in line, fist clenched, practically peeing myself.
The point is, Nintendo doesn't need to give away a TV to get their console to sell. If the Wii sucked, and Nintendo started giving away TVs to help the sales, I would feel the same way as I do about Sony.

That's not the point at all. Sony gave away TV's to people who were already in the line to get PS3's. These people had no inkling that Sony was going to do this.

In conclusion: Was giving away free tv's a PR stunt? Yes.
Was it Sony trying to sell more consoles out of desperation? No.

Sony IS desperate.
Very desperate.

Very, very desperate.

very very very very desperate.

very very very very very very very very desperate.

hmm.
I guess we can't live without these kind of comments, considering this is a Nintendo oriented site...

Ok people, before you post about how desperate Sony is.

Pretend it was Nintendo gave you a free T.V. when you bought your wii. You had no idea it was going to happen.
Are they desperate?

I hate quoting myself.

Well, I can't argue with that logic.

I'm saying, the Wii doesn't suck. And they gave you a free T.V.
What now?
Okay this argument really needs to be settled. The PS3 bounced back just a tad since the EU & AU release, however they really are desperate, but you have to look at all aspects of the equation. Sony will never ever ever admit it but when you apply common sense to it, it then sticks out like a sore thumb. Their marketing strategies in the SCE department worldwide paint the picture. The weird ads that they put out that are appealing to meth heads and children with A.D.D failed to captivate and draw in the majority of the market. In that respect I have to agree with RoosterJCrowley. The TV giveaway was a ploy to get others out to stores in later days in hopes that Sony might be handing out more free merchandise. In the position they're in, it's an act of desperation because they've already lost so much money, they need to make people turn heads towards them in a positive light.

In Nintendo's current position, if they gave out TV's it would be an act of generosity to their loyal customers because they've already profited so much. One can argue Sony had the same intentions, however the numbers don't lie, for a company who's console is flailing in an violent ocean without a life jacket, it's a blatant cry to be noticed by the public in hopes people will come out and buy their product.

No matter what they try, they make it obvious that they're struggling at trying to dominate the console market once again. PS2 support will likely bottom out within the year. And now they're changing marketing strategies for the PSP, which sounds like they ripped the ad off of a box of Cheez-It's. With a $20 price-cut it's still not worth the money, it's actually more of a slap in the face. Also with no PS3 price-cuts in the foreseeable future, the future of the PS3 looks grim, because most out there have better things to spend that kind of cash on, like bills, car payments, credit cards, and just overall maintaining a social life. The people out there that drop all their cash on such an expensive console screams that they're either rich or have such a sad life outside of their home that they do nothing but look forward to playing with themselves in their living rooms 24/7.

As for kids who save up cash to buy the system, I'm sure it's not worth it to them either. Back in 97 I mowed lawns in my development for 3 months to be able to buy a PSone and a copy of FFVII, not to mention up my N64 collection. I worked my ass off, day in and day out, beating out all the landscaping companies just so I could get the damn thing (I was 12 at the time). Looking at the cost of a PS3, if I were in that same position now, I would rule out buying that console because I would have to cut grass and maintain shrubbery for +/- 9 months. SCREW THAT! I'd go for a Wii, because of it's price and level of innovation.

JESUS F*** I didn't realize I wrote so much, hopefully everyone got through it.

I don't care how good/nice a company is, they only have one goal.
Your money.
There is no such thing as generosity in buisness.

Sony came up with a way to sell consoles.
Let's pound on them for atempting to sell their consoles!
Bad Sony!
D: <

Should we pound on other companies for using ads on T.V.?
"OMG! They have to get my attention by T.V. to make me buy their console! They must be desperate!"

Advertising is that. It's not like T.V. ads are the only way to go.

WiiLoaded once held a chance to win a Wii when it was released.
Where they desperate for more members?
Or where they using a clever advertising campaign?

Is Sony giving away the TVs out of the goodness of their hearts?
