Some PS3 midnight launches were canceled in the UK, but the festivities at the Virgin Megastore in London went ahead as scheduled...and Sony richly rewarded those hardcore gamers who chose to wait in line for their PS3. The first 100 consumers in line received - get this - a brand new 46" high-definition television (probably Bravias), plus a free taxi ride home so they wouldn't have to drag their surprising prize down the sidewalk.
Wow, Sony sure is getting desperate aren't they? If they have to give away TV to boast sales of their console even they must realize how crappy the PS3 is...

I read this yesterday on G4 and Sony is getting desperate. They have realized they may have a big problem on their hands.
It's funny seeing all the Sony fanboy's comment on G4 defending Sony's reasons for doing this, saying it was them "giving back and doing something nice".
Personally, I find that hard to believe and see it more as a gimmicky marketing ploy. Do they think now people are going to dash to stores and pick up PS3's in hopes of getting free electronics?
The PS3 is a sick piece of hardware, just looking at some demo's at PS3 kiosks, but after hearing enough of Sony blab on condescendingly during press releases and all that...they can kiss my dego ass.
Why doesnt Sony just give them a Hug kiss, and some money along with that?
Wow, I guess I'm the only one here who would have been very happy with a 46 inch HD tv

They could have been like most companies and given nothing at all but an "I'm sorry"
I'm sure anyone on this forum would have been more then happy to get this little gift, but since no one here was quite so fortunate, it's easy to be jealous and call it a gimmick. I wonder if those people who actually got the TVs thought Sony was being desperate or if they were happy with what they got? ;0
The people probably bought it for the T.V, since they have nothing to do on their PS3's. its practically that T.V for 599. Or whatever the price is where it is.
It's pointless, but I would be happy with the T.V, but not so much with the PS3.
I already have a 55" so mine woulda went on eBay

That's not the point. The point is that Sony has to give away a new HDTV just to get people interested in their console. That's pretty pathetic to me. I'm sure everyone here would love to get a free TV with their video game console.

How could it be an act of desperation if nobody knew they were going to give anything away?
Most biased thread ever?
It is true that they surprised people last minute with the HDTV's. Even so, I still feel like it's a pathetic ploy to try and get more systems off shelves. Specifically targeting stupid people. After this I could see something like this happening.
"Hey Cletus uhhuuuk, let's gota PP Games I hears them fellas at Sonies is givin aways HDTV's if we buys a Playstashun Free". Cletus and his wife/sister goto PP Games only to find out they've been duped by a shameless ploy and now have five dollars remaining in their pockets to survive on until next payday thanks to Sony. "Dag nabbit Cletus how we gunner eats skwerls all week now everyday with no skewrls to eat?", says Mrs. Cletus, then Cletus says, "It's OK sis, just let yer nuts hang out and we be fine" AHUUK HUUK HUKK HUUK~/!!!
There goes any semblance of intelligence this thread ever garnered.
Really though, it would be different if Sony had put out ads beforehand. But they didn't. No one that was there expected to get a free HDTV, and no one expects to get one now.
This is what happened. Sony did a nice thing for 100 people, and now people are trying to turn it into a bad thing, because Sony is the cool company to hate.
How someone could even come to the conclusion "Sony is getting desperate because they gave away some HDTV's" is mindboggling.
come one dude, get a sense of humor
What was that you said at E3, Mr. Hirai? "We don't believe in gimmicks."?
Looks like you should tell your boy at Sony to follow your advice... Not that they did at E3 2006, though.
I want the HD TV! Hell, if they kept the same price as it is now and said they'd give me the TV with it then I'd pick it up without hesitation. Simple for the Blu Ray player and TV Combo. Also I heard someone mentioning that the Sony Blu Ray player plays games too!
Sony is just losing more money doing this anyway, so it doesnt really help them.
I can smell this threads lock.
No it would be the description thread.
aw, we're going to close this thread just because ihavewiiproblems doesn't have a sense of humor? Not cool cloud
Nope the thread won't be closed, because there's no sense in doing it right now.
I think anytime a company gives away free stuff it makes them look good. As I've said before, you guys can't ***** about Sony doing this, but I would have been more then happy to get one of those TVs.
What's pretty funny is, if Nintendo had done the same thing, you guys would be "Oh man, Nintendo rocks!"
I guess Sony isn't that desperate after all, considering the sales.

that is so true. i want to hear someone try and justify otherwise
