Not the starters themselves, the starting pokemon in the beginning like starly (flying/normal), Kricketot ( bug that evolves fast), Bidoof (normal pokemon that's found everywhere). You get the picture, but this group doesn't look to bad especially Shinx that looks to be one of the best starters.
O, ok ya i agree with you. The starting pokemon that you are talking about do suck. I guess they are just there for you train on a little before starting the game.
Empoleon seems so cool though... that is of all the starters, which seem uninspired after several generations of fire grass water...
Id not geting either but Id choose the Chimchar

now that i've played through the game, i'd say chimchar would have been the best choice.
I went with chimchar because i am a fan of fire pokemon (started with cyndaquil and charmander my first times through the old games). Also, being fighting and fire is a pretty powerful combo, as long as u aren't fighting a psychic pokemon
Charizard > Typhlosion > Blaziken > Infernape.

Chimchar, clearly, was my starter.
Because Fire is cool, lol.
Piplup is cooler because water puts out fire.
By that logic Turtwig is cooler again because Water helps Grass grow but Fire burns away Grass but Water puts out Fire but Water helps Grass grow although Fire burns away Grass ect.

I technically like Electric Pokemon, like Surge. But for starters I go the way of Blaine and choose Fire.
I alway like water pokemon as starters, they help you throughout the game a lot and are useful for the first gym.
It's nice to see a fairly even spread of starters. Turtwig is lagging a little, but he is grass type. I'm going for chimchar. I always pick the fire type, and after the excellence of Blaziken, I have high hopes for Infernape. Another fire/fighting is kind of redundant though.

Yes it is, they could have done something different for Infernape.
