Are you brave enough to kill the undead? Can you look death in the face and laugh? Do you have enough strength to stab a stake in a vampires back? These questions are exactly what Super Castlevania IV asks you to do. The 1991, 16 bit game was cuck full of monsters, holy water and vampires! So, lets put it to the test and find out if it rocks the VC's socks!

---Story---

"Unknown to the people of Transylvania, an evil group of people are holding a ceremony in the old destroyed abbey outside of town, attempting to revive the Prince of Darkness. As they carry out their ritual a dark cloud descends over the countryside. The sinister group stirs itself into a frenzy of mysterious chanting and pagan dancing, then lightning strikes the abbey. The ground bucks under their feet, and the abbey walls shudder. Once again, Dracula is revived!

It is time once again for Simon Belmont to call forth the powers of good to aid him in his battle. Armed with his mystical whip, his courage and the centuries-old knowledge of Belmont family training, he sets forth on his mission . . ."    (For the full text of the instruction manual, visit Here)

Dracula just won't die. Sooner or latter, Simon Belmont will have his head. But till that day comes, there's this game. Sure, the story is just a little recycled, but its still pretty butt kicking!

---Graphics---

Super Castlevania IV shows off effects such as multi scrolling backgrounds, animated objects in the far off distance, and very complex and diverse colors, shapes and monsters in its levels. The game takes on an even more dark, scary and eccentric mood and atmosphere than the past Castlevania games in the series. Other than those reasons, the game was the first game to use Mode 7. Mode 7 is a term used (that was first originated on the SNES) that describes a simple texture mapping graphics mode that allows a background layer to be rotated and scaled. By modifying the scaling and positioning of the layer on a scanline-by-scanline basis a simple perspective effect can be applied, transforming the layer into a 2D horizontal texture-mapped plane that trades height for depth.
Wow. Thats pretty cool.

---Gameplay---

Simon's Whip. Where would we be without you? Simon's whip is a weapon used through out the whole side scrolling game and is very useful. It can also be upgraded. Besides Simon's whip, there are other sub-weapons likes holy water, a cross and daggers. These are always fun to use on monsters. Other then wepons, there is the unique level design. The levels puts the player in very tense moments, such as escaping the deadly blades of a huge, circular saw, or crossing a bridge with randomly disappearing parts, along with timing jumps between large, swinging chandeliers, where one wrong move sends the player to the deadly void below! So, all in all, the gameplay is very unique. Not only in weapons, but also in level design.

---Music---

In the game there is early 18th century styles. With common reoccurring theams and chord movement, this music is intense and keeps the games dark and lonely feel alive. Just like with movies, music can make or help break a game.

---Story---Is fun to kill Dracula but he needs to die and stay dead!---8.5
---Graphics---Graphics are great with the first use of the Mode 7---9.5
---Gameplay---Great side scrolling action that has unique level design---9
---Music---Great musical theams that keep the intensity up---9
---Lasting appeal---Its long but not long enough. Second time is harder---7.5
---Overall---Awesome Castlevania game---9              (All scores out of 10)

---Get this game?---This is just like Gunstar heros. A must get for eny VC. If you have ever loved a Castlevania game, you will more then likely love this! I'm also giveing this the Mr.Luben Choice award because i love the Castlevania games and think that all should get this.
