Interesting, but no real surprise there. I was under the impression that blue ray, while having the benefit of larger memory capacity, also suffers from longer load times. Is that correct/incorrect?
i've heard about the loading times issues. i think the PS3's BD runs at 2x while the 360's is 12x. some devs work around that issue by having you download something into the PS3's HDD for faster loading times. i think resistance did that.
Yes both HD DVD and Blu ray disc take much longer to load compared to the basic DVD, so this is no real surprise, and it really shouldn't be for anyone.
This also depends on the game. If you look at the head to head on IGN concerning the game "Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion" they state that the PS3 does load quicker. I think it is due to the programming why it loads quicker on X360 in this case, as for the X360 THP8 is almost 2nd gen game...whereas on PS3 it was a launch title. So, I think w/ regards to more time the load times will become more equal.
i was surprised.
if you go to the informative websites about HD DVD and BLU RAY you'll read that both of the 1st gen players load very slow, especially compared to current Last Gen DVD technology.
The PS3 has very slow loading times.
When I was playing T.H.U.G (tony hawks underground)
I had it for the GCN and they loading bar didnt even get to half and it was done. Then I played it on the PS2, And it had to load the WHOLE bar..
Playstations have bad loading.

nah. thanks, but im not interested in the HD format wars.
the 360 doesn't use hd dvds. you have to get the external drive for those, and those are only for movies. the 360s games are on 2x layer dvds with a max of only 8.5gigs. the ps3's blu-ray discs have a mich higher transfer rate than standard dvds, but they also have a storage capacity of 25gigs/ layer, and most games use 2 layers. the Wii is also supposed to accept 2x layer dvds, although no-one has used them yet/ has a way to read the discs. when things are displayed at 1080 they are at nearly 6 times the resolution of a widescreen s/ edtv. therefore the textures for a 1080 game are almost 6 times as sharp and almost 6 times the cost space-wise. to get hd games on the 360 there is a lot compression, and even so there is a limit to the game size. on the ps3 the games are compressed a lot less, and there is usually still plenty of space left on the discs. both systems can store game data on their hard drives. therefore the ps3 should eventually be much faster at loading content than the 360 because of the limitations of the hardware on the 360. i'll also add that the 360 has roughly the same supported polygon count for most of its games that the wii has.

I guess my point was missed. Both Blu Ray and HD DVD reads much slower then standard DVD's. I mean PS3's Blu Ray drive is reading at 2X/9MB per second. Xbox360's standard DVD player is reading at 12X/16MB per second. So there should be no big surprise in the difference in load speeds
source of drive speed and transfer rates
Alot does still depend on how the game is programmed. Go to IGN and you can read it for yourself on their Head-To-Head, Oblivion for PS3 loads FASTER than Oblivion for X360.
