Price cuts looming for the Core Pack.

April 2, 2007 - Sony has shown great reluctance to drop the price of the PSP. Until now, it was perched at the $199.99 price-point, and may have turned off some potential customers. Today, photos of Gamestop POPs sprung up on several gaming blogs claiming that starting Tuesday, April 3, all of this would change.

The displays in question indicated that from April 3 onward, the PSP Core Pack would be sold at the reduced price of $169.99. Accompanying these adverts were instructions with how to handle the promotion of this cost reduction. Not surprisingly, the whole thing was supposed to be kept a secret, although apparently no one got the memo.

Those of you planning on picking up a PSP today had better holster your credit cards for the next 24 hours. The price drop should leave you with just enough money to pick up a copy of Puzzle Quest when you snag yourself a PSP tomorrow. Although the ghost of April Fools is lingering in the air, rest assured that this is not a prank. IGN contacted several EB Games and Gamestop retail outlets in the area who confirmed the price drop. Sony representatives declined to comment.

I think most people feel the same way you do, but I'm guessing that Sony might be trying to get rid of inventory for the possible PSP2.

Even if it dropped 100 dollars, i still wouldn't buy because it has a horrible game selection...
Waiting for the PSP2 would be the best bet but not sure when it will be out. It may be a while. Now that I'm looking at it I hope they don't follow the same numbering as the PS for the PSP. PSP2 just looks dumb.
I think the whole idea behind pricing the PSP a little lower is to sell out the inventory and make way for the PSP2. That's generally how Sony does things, and how the other companies do it to for that matter.
I'd be more inclined towards the DS2 or Evolution(if it's real). Sony can sit on a traffic cone when it comes to portables.
Hmm I'm not sure what you have against traffic cones, but they must have hurt someone close to you in your family.

I'm not sure when Nintendo will release a new handheld, but it doesn't seem like that need to right now. hopefully though, Sony will learn from a couple of their mistakes and make a good PSP2.

i think we should all remember, competition is what keeps companies honest, and even though the DS is doing much better then the PSP, having the PSP around only helps DS consumers.
