Had you not come in here acting like you were doing us all a huge favor and begging for rep, I might have been inclined to be a little more forgiving. As it is I responded to your arrogant attitude in kind.
I used to think that too, but should we really be? I mean, if we're just happy that it goes online, then we're basically conceding to the fact that Nintendo is essentially behind...
I mean, not only do Xbox and PS2/3 have online capabilities, but also microphones (including wireless for Xbox360), keyboard support, and many convenient features...I think we've come to the time where we need to expect more from Nintendo than the bare minimum, which is basically the point we're all at.. =/
yeah, I know that this stuff is supposed to come out, I just hate the feeling that Nintendo seems behind
.................. I DONT WANNA KNOW THAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
EVENTUALLY, I got a straight answer.

(What I wrote)
So the Wii can not run of 54.0mbps at 802.11g FULL STOP? I DO NOT want to hear that it is backwards compatible with 802.11g routers or anything like this. I just want to know if I have my router set to "802.11g mode only" will my Wii connect to it? Please don't mess with me here. Just a simple YES or NO. Not ifs and buts. Sorry if you think this sounds cheeky or distasteful, I'm just frustrated writing these e-mails and getting answers for questions I didn't ask. So one last time, "802.11g mode only": YES or NO.
(What Nintendo Replied)
Dear Customer, thank you for your e-mail.
The Wii will not work with a router set to 802.11g only, no.
Kind regards,
Your Nintendo Team

So there we have it. The Wii will only run at 802.11b.
For those of you who don't know what the hell i'm on about here we go.
802.11b is a wireless transmission mode as is 802.11g.
When people get High Speed Broadband Internet, they usually get it in mbps or mega-bits-per-second. For instance, I have 100 mbps, which Americans would think is slow. Many Americans have 800 mbps. With wireless routers, they usually don't output that speed of internet, they usually limit it. 802.11b (what Wii and DS can ONLY use) is 11 mbps. Basically around 10 times slower than my 100 mbps and 80 times slower if your lucky and have 800 mbps!!!!!!!
802.11g on the other hand outputs at 54 mbps. Roughly 5 times faster than 802.11b. But no, Nintendo had to cheap out and get b-only card. Grrrrrrrr...
What this would result in is games with less lag in online games and that your Wii's Opera Browser would be 5 times faster.
Thanks. Please leave opinions.
And one more thing. If you have an 802.11g router and your Wii can connect to it, it is not connecting to the g-mode. It means your router is set to MIXED or AUTO mode which it outputs both b and g. Your Wii connects to the former.
Firstly
WHERE THE HELL did you get your info that many americans have 800Mbps? Switzerland (with the best telephone network in the world) peaks at about 200Mbps for the average user!
In the UK you'd be lucky to get 8Mbps.
and why should nintendo splash out on a G card that'll only bring the price up and allow developers to be more lazy. IF you haven't got as much space to work with, you're gonna seriously optimise your code.
Secondly. Why have your router on G-only anyway, It's good to have B as a fallback when you get out of range of your G signal. I.E. Roaming with a laptop. It just doesn't make much sence?
and if security is your issue, why do you not just put up a MAC filter.
ps. sorry, I just read that back and it looked quite 'stabby', I don't mean it like that
