Apparently, when the Wii was introduced into the market in Shanghai, it retailed for a price of 3,000 Yuan, which comes to about $388 USD (we could be wrong, apparently there are different types of Yuan over there). Shortly after that, the consoles started showing up with modchips built into them and Japanese consoles imported into the region dropped their price to 2,100 Yuan, which is about $271 USD. Even worse, pirated games could be found VERY cheap over there, only costing 10 Yuan, or little over $1 USD.

The price for a console over there has shot back up to 3,000 Yuan again, which is likely due to the demand for the system being skyrocketed by the cheap solutions the piracy scene offers over there. This, of course, will definitely attract Nintendo's attention, hopefully causing the company to take action. But really, what action can they take?

This kinda sucks alot, because if I remember correctly, this same situation is what caused the Dreamcast to fail. >Sad

HAHA! Thats funny!
No biggy for me, i already gots my wii!
Then that WOULD be a biggy for you...

pirated copies=no money for nintendo=no more games=waste of 250 dollars on the console.

at least thats what happened to the DC.
NO, DON'T KILL THE WII YOU F-ING PIRATERS!
Narrator: It was at that moment that NBbowler decided to get off the internet and actually do something about the piracy in China. He then became... Captain NB, the Piracy Hunter.
We should remember that Nintendo is making a profit off of the Wii system itself. Piracy doesn't help Nintendo, but it shouldn't kill them either....mad cow will do that.

People in China don't worry so much about being caught with pirated Nintendo software, I think they have bigger issues to deal with.
Such as the ever-increasing population, GFT?
The dream cast was dieing enyways (all though the piracy in china didn't help)
Nintendo is doing great and i don't think that pirates can stop them
man i hate Piraters, they are pretty much stealing from Nintendo and other game companies. Hey this gives me an idea....I will now change my Custom User title to Piracy Hunter to show me pride against Piracy! O and even though you are upset thnx for the creative name.

Um, I didn't post my first post for somebody to steal my title, ya know. ?_?

The dreamcast wasn't doing bad... it had the highest number of console sales in 1 day (500,000 i think). It screwed up when they made the security on their games crappy, so there were alot of 'burnt copies' of a game. I remember my friends dad was stationed in Korea, and he sent him home all these dreamcast games, but they were all pirated lol. But I agree, I don't think it will get really out of hand and cause nintendo to phail... If this was happening to the ps3 though, that would be another story...

Sigh, to fight piracy you must first understand why people do it, and to understand why people do it you must understand their circumstances.
Most people that pirate games live in third world countries or at least aren't as rich as USA, UK, etc. Lol... these people (in fact even though I live in USA, I was born in Chile, which isn't very rich...), they... how can I put this so everyone can understand... are not everyone is rich!
Not saying that I support piracy, but understand that if you live in any country that isn't a third world country, you are living in a DREAM world compared to them.
Piracy is just as big of a problem in "first world" countries.
In Asian countries Piracy is huge. I'm not going to defend it but I will tell you that when you want to buy a Wii and/or accessories in a lot of the Asian countries the price is jacked up a lot. I paid around $500 USD for mine and the price hasn't dropped much since then. The cheapest one you can find here is for about $400 USD. The people in these countries don't make much money as it is and they are paying more than what people pay for the Wii in the U.S. (retail of course, not ebay). Anyone who wants to know what it's like can hit me up on MSN for details and read the story I wrote on the portal page about piracy in Thailand.

On another note, if anyone thinks the Wii will fail because of Piracy take a look at the PS2. It's the most popular console here, still to this day as well because of piracy and it certainly did not fail. I'm not encouraging piracy but just trying to show what may be the cause for it.

I cried a little when reading this. I guess if your argument is that people HAVE to pirate video games because they are poor and can't afford them retail in other countries, then I ask you this: What the hell are they doing with video game systems to begin with. Anyhow, enough of my rant. Let me recommend a cheaper alternative to video gaming for those poor souls around the world...

Have fun kids.

Ummm... dude I am not talking about people who live in a tepee or live in a house made of wax.

You are acting like we should feel sorry for them because they are breaking international copyright laws to earn a living... well I dont...
Yeah? Hmmm... So people worry about piracy because it's illegal? Well let me tell you a little secret about what really is illegal...
Did you know that corporations in 1st world countries (like USA) literally have slaves to do the work for them in other countries? They only hide this by paying them 10 cents a day (I forget what the average was but it's pretty worthless). The families can barely feed their children (actually many can't). Prime examples: Nike, 90% of clothing, all the "made in china", 99% of chocolate you eat, etc.

But wait they don't call this illegal? I sure as hell would. And here we are facing them getting back at us, by pirating.
Oh and if you didn't know this by now, please go get yourself a couple of books.
*Majordomo achieves enlightenment*
And the funny thing is that many people consider having slaves in other countries a good thing because it keeps prices down in rich countries
