Full Version: The Best Zelda Game?

Without a doubt Ocarina of Time is the best.

Link to the Past is second and Wind Waker is third.

Twilight Princess is a solid game but ffs why is it so much like Ocarina of Time? Except insanely easy. Seriously, the game was a massive let down and I am hoping its the only Zelda game that will suffer that fate.

Ocarina is the ultimate, perfect game. And that's all there is too it.

I'd say Twilight Princess, but I loved Ocarina Of Seasons.

I'm sorry, but you, sir, bring us shame- Ocarina of Seasons isn't a game. I think, perhaps, you refer to The Ocarina of Time?. But there is an Oracle of Seasons, if that's what you mean.

I'd say that as far as genre defining games go, OoT is the best, but my personal favorite is Majora's Mask, hands down. Now, before people tell me I'm an idiot, how many people here have played MM before?

God, Ocarina of Time, Twilight Princess, and A Link to the Past are SO close....

But I think my list goes like this:

1. Twilight Princess
2. Ocarina of Time
3. A Link to the Past

I've played MM and it definitly is one of my favourite zeldas.
1.twilight princess
2.ocarina of time
3.wind waker
4.majoras mask

OMG I can't believe all these Zelda try-hards are voting for Twilight. It makes me sad to see.

Please Nintendo, make more Zelda's original... not an Ocarina clone like Twilight.

No more flopping!!

For the record, Majora's Mask > Twilight Princess.
Ocarina of Time... best 3-d action/adventure. Twilight Princess was great, but I agree it was too repetitive when compared with OoT. At the very least, in the Zelda series you should have played through:
The Legend of Zelda (NES)
LoZ: A Link to the Past (SNES)
LoZ: Ocarina of Time (N64)
LoZ: Twilight Princess (GC/Wii)

Second Tier:
Zelda II: The Adventure's of Link (NES)
LoZ: Link's Awakening (GB)
LoZ: Majora's Mask (N64)
Oracle of Seasons/Time (GBC)
Minish Cap (GBA)
Wind Waker (GC)
Four Swords (GC)

Third Tier:
Non-nintendo released Zeldas.

That's just my opinion. To fully voice an opinion, you should have played through the first tier. The second tier is also highly reccomended before saying which is best. I'm not saying they can't be on par with tier 1, just saying they are not widely considered in the "vote for the best zelda" polls except by people who generally have played only a few.
i hate to say it, but although TP was fun and entertaining, it isn't the best game in the series. it wasn't something fresh and original...it was too easy...and although the storyline was good, and the graphics were good, they could have been improved upon SO much more, especially since it was delayed for so long, and it ended up being one of the launch titles for the Wii.

I can't really rank the games, because i think of a lot of them as great in certain aspects, but a let-down in others. my all-time favorite, though, for the longest time, is Link to the Past.

I agree with Harmonica in terms of the tiers, but there's one thing I'd changfe...in the first tier, i'd have to say LoZ, LttP, OoT, and WW instead of TP. WW was something that caught my eye, and even though the ocean was a pain in the arse, it was creative, new and original. TP is really just a compilation of the older games, with a graphics and controls upgrade (i'm not including new characters, because we've seen that in other games previously). Not saying it isn't a good game to play through, but i'd put it in the second tier, not the first.
dear god if this were in one of my forums i would've locked it with all the bickering, but it's not so i'll just add to the fire Big Grin

I can say without any thing... its Twillight Princess... If you were asked wich Zelda today the best is... you can't say its OoT because it was so cool as it was released... -.- You know what I mean?

And nearly EVERYBODY wanted that Zelda shoud be again like OoT... and now you got it... a 120% OoT with better Graphic, more things to do and so on....
and for the People who think the Storyline is not as good like the storyline in OoT.... Damn! its ALWAYS the same... and now people come... "But the game doesn't know how to tell the story" thats f****ing bull****, man its clear, its exciting and holds you banned on you console till the end... what the f*** do you want more?....
kk... sorry for this little eruption... but slowly I hate this threads, were always the same things are talked about... "OoT is better than TP", "No its not!"
-.-

holy crap. someone finally said it

TP is like OoT on steroids. everything from OoT was put into TP with better graphics, sound, and even more things to do. i could waltz through OoT in 20hrs or less. atleast the core of TP took me 35 hrs

wind waker and majora's mask kicked ass because they were original. personally, they're two of my favorite because of it. but putting OoT ahead of TP is like saying single ply toilet paper is better than double ply. IT HAS TWO PLYS!! HOW IS IT WORSE!?!?!?

and how can you say TP wasn't original? OoT didn't have you cutting ropes with the arrows, targeting 5 things with the boomerang, traveling as a wolf and human, and let us not forget the half dozen items from TP that have never been in a Zelda title before

and who the hell thinks TP doesn't have a good story? OoT's story was cut and paste. i actually had to think about TP. there is symetry used in the cutscenes, psychological undertones, and an overall story that doesn't feel like it's ripped from a fairy tale for 5 year olds. it's like an interesting movie with plot twists and an engaging story. i was actually surprised by it. i knew how OoT was gonna end before i even picked it up

^ Totally and completly agree!

TP >> OOT
Ok, my favorites are:
1.Ocarina of Time
2.A link to the past
3.Wind Waker
4.Legend of Zelda
5.Twilight Princess.

Then the others just sorta tie for 6th or whatever. XD
TP is an overhyped piece of gaming that was talked up too much before release.

It fails in every area it tries to copy Ocarina in. It will never be the best Zelda game, better luck next time Nintendo.

1. Ocarina of Time
2. Link to the Past
3. Wind Waker
4. The Legend of Zelda
5. Twilight Princess.

To be better than Ocarina they would have needed to do a few things to TP:
a) Go a different direction to Ocarina.
b) Make the game challenging instead of easier than other Nintendo games.
c) Make the full lifespan of the game worthwhile, like a Final Fantasy game.
d) Actually stick to their promise and make the soundtrack orchestrated.
lol, I like your list LMX. XD
Holy crud, I only just realised we had the same lists. Alex's list is ftw.

Twilight Princess was a massive disappointment after the high hopes that were set leading up to the overhyped release.

I envy you if you were able to enjoy it, because I couldn't get all the way into it because of several hindering issues.
That sucks. I enjoyed the game, but it wasn't my favorite. Still though a fun game IMO.

Wait, b, c, and d are all issues Ocarina of Time had as well (minus the "promise" of orchestrated music). The only difference is originality.

I love how 90% of the online community bashed nintendo hard for their choices in making Wind Waker, and now a lot of them have 180'd. Twilight Princess is what everyone wanted and majora's mask failed to be: a "sequel" to Ocarina of Time. Rarely do sequels live up to the original.

You realize Nintendo can NEVER win. If they go the creative route, people will ***** and moan about how it's not Ocarina. If they go the rehash route people ***** and moan on how it's too much like Ocarina. Personally I'm happy nintendo is making the franchise still, and I'm hoping they revive some "dead" franchises (Kid Icarus and Punchout! mainly), but I realize this will bring both praise and criticism from the online and gaming community.

I never complained about Wind Waker for starters. I loved it from the very start, much like I enjoyed TP at the start but then eventually tired of its ease and Ocarina-like features.

Wind Waker is more original than TP.

I completely agree, but I think the reason people love OoT so much is that it was the most original and epic game of its time. TP is an excellent game and better than OoT in most areas, but it isn't the pioneer that OoT was, and I think people need to get over that and recognize TP for what it is: a well-made game with next to nothing to complain about.
That and TP was easier than putting 2 and 2 together to make 4.
Zelda link to the past FTW!!!
