Zelda link to the past FTW!!!

this totally beats all those arguments over whether OoT or TP was better...

Twilight Princess and Ocarina of Time!
Ok, I'll admit it: I voted for Majora's Mask. I'm a little confused--is this poll a vote on the BEST game, or the game that is the sentimental favorite? Because the BEST one, is obviously Ocarina of Time, but MM was such a refreshing spin, that I couldnt help but love it even more than OoT, just because I'd felt they'd been so creative in putting a new spin on an old thing...
My list goes

1. Ocarina of Time
2. A Link to the Past
3. Majora's Mask
4. Wind Waker
5. Phantom Hourglass (Why is it not on the poll, it's awesome!)

Twilight doesn't make the list because as others have said it did not live up to the hype at all...the first half of the game did but then it peaked about halfway through and the last 4 or so temples were kind of boring and uninspired. The final battle was epic but overall it didn't love to Ocarina which is pretty much flawless in every way.

Those saying that Nintendo can never win, well I think they can, they just didn't with TP. They tried to make it like OoT which should have been good but it was bad because it felt more like OoT 1.5 rather than a new experience. There is just something about Ocarina that makes the game world feel complete and the story seems like much more of a struggle, the game is much darker etc. There really is just something about it that Twilight didn't have.

They've got to try somethingg a bit different. I'm pretty sure just about every game involves rescuing Zelda who gets kidnapped (has anyone else ever noticed that two of Nintendo's franchises nearly always revolve around rescuing a princess...Mario and Zelda) and saving hyrule. Now they could easily change that while still making it traditional. Gannondorf could kill Zelda, cover it up and act as if he's good, becoming the King of Hyrule the story could revolve around Link getting revenge and kind of almost turning to the dark side (sorry for the star wars reference), but because the people of hyrule now trust gannondorf there could be all sorts of stealth kind of things and Link could almost turn evil to restore peace...I just came up with that then, it's just an idea, probbably not a good one but at least it would be a bit different for a change!!!

Or why not have a game that is set before Wind Waker and at the end the world floods etc in preparation for WW. They could do so much with the franchise if they tried something a bit different, they can still keep the gameplay relatively similar, crank up the difficulty A LOT and come up with some new puzzles and epic locations.

TP was too much like OoT in the wrong ways, they should have just had a couple of locations or characters from Oot such as Lon Lon Ranch or something but instead the whole game just felt like an alternate version of OoT. Twilight Princess may have looked like Ocarina of Time, but it didn't FEEL like Ocarina of Time, it didn't have that captivating sense of wonder that Ocarina of Time had, the sense that you were in a completely new world...that's what Nintendo needs to achieve with their next Zelda game and it's not beyond them...they just need to get Miyamoto back as the director Big Grin

Sorry for the long post
what a post!
And you post is spammy because it doesn't really relate to anything that was said.

It's your personal favorite Smile

Twilight Princess.

It has the best graphics, storyline, and gameplay out of all Zelda games. It also brings back Ocarina of Time memories. Good times...
i think The Cardinal Kingdom will become the next best zelda game....

The Cardinal Kingdom isn't a game, it's a big load of text.

it's not a game....yet, and the big load of text has gotten nothing but good comments.
when i make the demo, people can see how sweet this game's potential is.

I'll tell you what I think of it when Nintendo put it on store shelves.

no offense intended, but have you got any idea how difficult it would be to even make a demo of your game? I'm talking years of work. Let alone you'd need to have natural talent for 3D modeling, Texturing, Drawing, Musical Composition, Mathematics, Physics and probably more.

Also if you wanted to even stand a chance of Nintendo taking the project seriously (which I'm afraid they won't, you stand a greater chance of winning the lottery for two consecutive weeks without buying tickets) you'd have to make this demo and use completely original assets, code, and ideas. That means you'll have to make all the models, draw and 'shop all the textures, compose all the music, create all the sound effects, record all the dialog (with voice actors you've paid yourself). You'd not be able to license a third party engine (Unreal, Source) or middleware (PhysX, Havok, Miles 3D Audio, Bink Video) because Nintendo doesn't do that. You wouldn't be able to use any open-source code because most of the time that requires you to open-source the rest of your project, which Nintendo won't want.

Finally, you're game will need to have something really unique, Just another Zelda doesn't even come close to cutting it.

You want to know my opinion? keep with this idea, but for the love of god drop everything relating to the Zelda series. Realistically, you do not stand a chance of Nintendo noticing it.

well then, that's the beauty of it i'd say. i wouldn't want to do something that's easy...where's the fun in that. i'll assemble a team.

and i'm not sure if you've been catching on with the plot or anything else i might've said about the game, but it's more than just another zelda game.

-world map
-co-op/interchangeable
-interactive environment
-implied thinking/ strategy
-1:1 swords/ combinations
-more than several types of weapons, shields, armor, etc.
-different gaming modes

i'm not sure if i stated this on this forum or not but this idea is too good to just be an idea; i'm going to make it something and like i've said if nintendo doesn't want it, then it'll be their loss

...again, what's the purpose of doing something that's easy to do, i like to challenge myself...
Sorry to burst your bubble but making any game is not easy, at least a good one anyway.
-world map

??
Every zelda game has a world map, If you're talking a huge area then good luck trying to pull that off, World of Warcraft is probably the biggest game in the world, and it's a pay monthly MMORPG, That would not suit a Zelda game which are typically single-player RPGs.

Been done before.

-Co-op/interchangable

?? again
If you mean co-op play, again that would break the zelda formula of a single-player game. Not everything is improved with multiplayer. It's very hard to make a game that plays just as well in co-op mode as it does in single player mode (Ever played Army of Two? That game's co-op is pretty good. The single player mode is rubbish because The AI can't beat having a human companion and is frankly dumb. And you can't say "I'll just make sure the AI is smart" That is much easier said than done).

Been done before.

-Interactive environment

This is not new. Most games are expected to have this to some degree.

-Implied thinking/strategy

??
Zelda games have always had this, that's what the puzzles are. And a game's not really a game if there's no strategy involved, A game without strategy would just be an annoying DVD where you have to press next every 5 seconds.

Been done before... in every game, ever.

-1:1 swords/combinations

I'm assuming this is to do with using the Wii remote? The first issue probably doesn't matter to you since you're still trying to make a zelda game, but this instantly makes your game un-portable because you can't use SIXAXIS as a sword effectively and no other console has axial positioning in their controllers. The second issue is that this is a gimmick and if you make it a core component of the gameplay (do this combination to continue) then there is a very big chance you'll wreck the whole game.

Been done before (look at red steel >_>Wink

-more than several types of weapons, shields, armor, etc.

This has been done in many RPGs, the reason this isn't so in zelda, is because it keeps the game simple enough to be enjoyed by everyone. That's one of the main reasons the zelda franchise is so successful, people find it easy to just pick it up and play it.

Been done before.

-different gaming modes

If we're talking difficulty levels then sure that'd be an alright addition but it's still nothing special. Been done before.

If we're talking adding non RPG elements to the game like Racing, RTS, etc. It's another okay idea but Nintendo would have implemented it already if they wanted to (and to some degree there's already driving in OoT with the epona racing). This, again, isn't a new idea because FF7 has a selection of game types. so it's been done before.

And if you keep pushing it as a Zelda game it'll be your loss because they'll sue you into being homeless.

From what it looks like to me, you've just taken WoW and changed the theme to hyrule. I hate to break it to you but there is nothing unique here. There's a difference between challenging yourself and just fruitless abandon.

that's because your image of what the final result is all revolving around WOW. and all these things that ahve been done before in games....well that's great mate, but they haven't been done before in a zelda game and that's the key- it would appeal to people who always play zelda games because it's new, and in your sense it might just appeal to all WOW players because they will be familiar with the way the game plays. and about the whole sueing thing, i'm afraid you didn't read the final bit. i'm not taking credit for any of the characters but the plot....and soooo since i'm not an idiot, for that must be what you are mistaking me for....i won't name the demo ZELDA and all of the characters after zelda characters either....i don't care what their names are once it's a demo...hence demo/ prototype/ whatever makes you happy...

think of it this way, the game would be the newest zelda in a way, the twilight princess. and instead of just roaming around hyrule, you could explore every aspect of an entire zelda world, inside and out....

Wow. That'll be fun.

C-lo, the best shot you have is working for a small company, or heck, even being independant and work from there. Maybe someone will notice you and pick you up. It's a 99.99% chance it won't be Nintendo, and if it was, there's a 100% chance you're not touching the Zelda series but at least you'd be in the industry. Instead of riding on another franchise's coat tails why don't you just come up with a completely original idea? Something you'd actually get credit for?

I think the best game is Twilight Princess, but my favorite is WindWaker.

yeah, i have some other ideas formulating in my head, The Cardinal Kingdom was just the best one and the most in-depth one to be totally thought out...

i had this one idea for a war game, but it was definitely an idea...very very online....and i couldn't figure out an ending to it, sooooo it'd be incredibly advanced and sounded less real than the zelda game...
