now, if only they would give a price drop on the ps3, then i could afford to get one. i really need one for many reasons. 1: i need online play to help through the droughts of games. i'm not the kind of person that goes out and spends $200 on games every time more than one is released. i only buy what i know i'll enjoy, and having good online really helps when i don't have something new. 2:i need some way to transfer stuff to and from my sd cards so i can use the photo channel on my wii to it's full potential. 3:without a ps3, i will likely never get to watch anything in HD on my HDTV. 4:portal, re5, gta4, and several other games i really want aren't coming to my wii any time soon, and they'll be better on ps3 than 360. next year when i have $700 saved up (after i've spent $2,650 on a blu-ray enabled WUXGA LCD screen alienware notebook PC running Windows Vista Home Premium this august) will be a good time.
I can understand why people would save up for the 60GB version. It comes with more, and probably for less that if you bought the 20GB and all the accessories separately.
exactly

I think this is a good move for Sony. Every store I've seen PS3's I've only seen 60 gig systems anyhow, and they seem to be selling the most. No need to make 20 gig HDs if people don't want them

if both arent equally stocked, how could anyone make a choice between the two?
so the stat about the 60GB ouselling the 20GB model is a no brainer. sony manufactured and stocked far less 20GB than the other model. not only that, but they were losing just as much money manufacturing the 20GB model which is the most likey reason why they dropped that SKU. i bet if both SKUs were readily available, the 20GB would outsell the 60GB.
Actually I think your wrong about a couple things. I know that many retailers actually put in an order for what they want. We learned a long time ago that stores like EB games would request far more 60 gig systems, because they felt people would want them. This really has nothing to do with Sony.
at futureshop we dont even get them anymore. either cause they just stopped making them or we jsut dont order any of the 20gb ones.
I don't remember any of the stores here in Canada having 20 GB versions.
You gotta love Canada, they are so darn forward-thinking.

the retailer can put an order for 30 20GB models and only receive 5. sony still controls the flow.
OT: Dear god! I'm exactly like Greaser! Same post count, rep, status, and group! To bad I didn't join in may. >.>
I donno, if Canada doesn't recieve any 20GB consoles, how can they tell if they would be doing better or worse?

exactly, my twin-for-a-few-minutes!
hmm... looks like it was only "official" in North America...
You've read it, we're sure. You know, the news where the 20GB model of the PlayStation 3 has breathed its last? Turns out that's only about 85% true. Luckily for those of us not bothered by the fact that the system is region-free, you can still get your import on if you just can't shell out the extra Benjamin (or whatever equally-valued currency you may have... but they might not have such a snappy name). That's right -- Japan plans to continue selling the 20GB model.
Thinking about it, I've never actually seen a 20GB model on the shelves of stores around here, so it's interesting to finally have confirmation as to why. Because. The best option, if you're really trying to pinch pennies, is to go ahead and find a used console in Japan (of course, the air fare might make it a little more expensive) which go for 42,800 yen (we're estimating that's about $450). So... you can get your 20GB model if you don't mind importing. The end!

of course, who would want an imported model... :>_<:
I don't know if anyone else has posted this, but its official: The 20BG version will be discontinued in the US (we want the 60GB at a rate of 10 to 1).

Yup, but they still control which model their getting
So if 60gig models are selling really well, there's no reason for them to order any 20gig ones.
I don't remember any of the stores here in Canada having 20 GB versions.
I saw some in Best Buy.
Oh, well. You've seen something rare >.>
Not really, no one wanted one.
I don't remember any of the stores here in Canada having 20 GB versions.

Comon sense would tell us that Best Buy probably ordered some then, and you are in Canada. I think someone posted that they thought this was a U.S. thing.

Meh, Either way I saw some in Best Buy.

no. like i said. if they ordered 30 and only got 5, they're not in control of anything. sony's controlling what sells. the 60GB isnt selling well because thats what everyone wants, it's selling well because thats the model thats usually available.
