During a recent interview, Perrin Kaplan revealed that those still looking to get their hands on a Wii will probably be forced to wait that much longer. Apparently, Nintendo's production resources just cannot match demand as the company tries to get as many units available on store shelves as possible. Perrin says that there "is a lot going on behind the scenes in terms of working on what we are producing and the numbers continue to rise but the product is so very popular that we may see a supply / demand situation last for some time."

Is this excusable though? No, it most certainly is not, considering the console launched five months ago. When does Nintendo stop jerking us around and put their product on shelves? People certainly want the thing, so why not give it to them? Sure, Nintendo is in a prime position to control the supply and demand of their system, but when does it end? And, really, with the incredible resources that Nintendo has, can't they ramp up production or acquire new manufacturing plants?

Perrin adds "We are at absolute maximum production and doing everything we can. The number of units that we have been able to produce has far exceeded our hardware production in the past and the production levels of a lot of our competitors but demand continues to be really high. People are being really diligent about working with retailers to locate one but we are cognisent of the fact that a lot of fans are not able to get their hands on one yet. We are asking them to be patient and to know that we are working on this as fast as we can."

Well this just makes my day >Sad

Wow, this makes me happier that I was able to get my hands on one but also I feel sad for those still trying to get them. My friend just got his two days ago so I am relieved that he was able to get one.
I bet I won't be able to find one til summer. But seriously, Nintendo is doing an extremely crappy job on equalizing the supply/demand issue. The first few months they were to busy congratulating themselves on what a success the wii launch was, well until everyone who wants a Wii has one, then the launch is still going on nintendo :>_<:
its been said before but i will say it again...

if you dont have a Wii by now, you just havent tried hard enough...i wanted one, i found out when and where the shipments were arriving, i confirmed this info, i waited all night in line, i gots mine, nothing to it
I think Nintendo is playing a dangerous game right now. I have a Nintendo Wii and really enjoy it, but at what point do people get tired of being jerked around and say...I'm gonna go buy something else. I see no reason why they can't have systems on the shelves, and no maybe you won't see a Wii at Walmart every time you go to electronics, but you should at least have a 50/50 chance.
how do these people know Nintendo's not trying their hardest to meet demand? it's not that easy to buy a whole facility, provide the means of production for it and start spitting out units that won't be defective. the demand for this system is outrageous. NO ONE expected sales to be this high

i've got to agree with drew on this. those of us who really wanted a Wii found a way to get it. there are members who waited all night on shipment days, went through countless websites and drove to just as many stores to find a Wii and eventually succeeded. we've been over this all numurous times. Wal-Mart and GameStop are horrible places to look. Toys'R'Us, not so bad. Target, pretty good. you really want a practically sure hit, go to a Sam's Club. my best friend just bought a Wii from one where they had over 30 units in stock. my opinion, the ones who just can't find a Wii are just going looking in the wrong places
IGN had an Article today on this same issue. http://wii.ign.com/articles/779/779745p1.html

So you don't think this is Nintendo trying to keep the buzz going?

why would they do that? there's nothing Nintendo would really gain by purposefully withholding units. besides, when has Nintendo ever tried to pull a publicity stunt? Nintendo is about the content, not the hype of it
Well, I sort of agree. If you want something bad enough you'll find one. I'm 30 yrs old, so you aren't going to see me waiting in line over night just so I can get a Wii...however, I do have to disagree with your take on where to find these items. Saying Target has them or doesn't or that Sam's Club is a sure hit may be true for your town, but you can't apply that to the millions of places you DON'T live.

Here has been my experience: (I live in Fort Lauderdale/Miami btw)

I work next to a Sam's Club and I live next to another.....I've checked both as much as practically every other day for 1 month now. They both report the same thing: "we haven't had these in MONTHS". Not one.

This same experience applies to both Target and the three Gamestops I have near me.

So, while I do agree about your assesment that if you want one bad enough, you can find one, but I do disagree with your take on what stores have them and what the likelihood of you finding them there are....you really can't speak for what you haven't seen outside of your area.

In the meantime, I HAVE loaded up on Zelda, Wii Play, Paper Mario, extra nunchuck, classic controller and the component a/v cables. We have these in DROVES in South Florida...no shortage. Probably because no one needs them because of the Wii shortage! Smile

no i do not, if nintendo could produce and sell a million units a month they would, they know how fickle gamers are and the importance of striking while the iron is hot

they say they are producing at capapcity, i believe them

but you see that is the problem... The Wii is supposed to target all age groups and etc., but honestly, do you think you would find a 60 year old grandma camping outside walmart for a video game system...? And as a consumer, I dont think that we should have to freaking wait hours outside in 40 degree weather just for a system

i heard that was the place to go but havent seen any the last couple of visits (somehow, even after getting one, i am still fascinated with them being in stores)

welcomr to wiiloaded cro-mag, hope you like it

i waited all night and i am over thirty, but i was so geeked up about the wii i was obsessed of course i was a wreck at work the next day but still...i gots mine

target and best buy is good at holding shipments for an ad, but you still probably need to be there by 3 am to get one

i waited 10 hrs for mine on launch, others waited just as long or longer, and the couple at the head of my line were about 50. temps were about 40-50 degrees. it all depends on how much you want it. i really wanted mine so i did a lot to get it
I'm not sure if grandparents will be buying the Wii, but I think they'll be playing it with grandkids who have it. I agree though, you shouldn't have to wait out in the cold for one, but if you want one NOW, then that's what you gotta do.

Black Friday 2006 I got mine, and I was at a gamestop at 230am, they had 5 and I got number 4.
I tried waiting at two Bestbuys, two Gamestops and a Circuit City and could not get one. I tried to then get one off ebay and found a person that was selling one that was within a mile from my house so I just picked it up there.

Well just recently Nintendo only had one manufacture to produce Wii systems and according the info in this thread and that they are currently searching for more so that supply can meet demand.

Wow, this sucks......
I guess its cause Nintendo didn't think that the wii would be doing this great! But, i do hope that everyone who wants a wiii gets one!
i thought there would be plenty by april...oops

i agree its a problem because the folks that cant get a wii, might be tempted to buy an elite 360 or ps3 b/c they are available
Wii shortages doesn't meant that there aren't wii's at all
Nintendo will soon meet demand by summer probely
