Have you ever been to one of those 3D cinemas in which you wear a pair of special glasses that makes the on-screen action leap out at you? It's like something out of Back to the Future.

Now a new DS game, Glory Days 2, will use similar technology to make the on-screen graphics appear to stand out of the screen.

The 2D shooter, which bares some resemblance to old-time classic, Choplifter, will come packaged with a pair of 3D glasses that will make objects in the foreground stand out from the background.

It sounds cool, so we spoke to Ghostlight representative, Adrian Clews, who told us: "The game uses the Pufrich 3D effect to enhance the visual depth of the game."

It doesn't use those crappy red and blue glasses that used to come with sticker books, the glasses actually appear to be clear. "By placing a slightly darker shade over one eye, light reaches that eye slower than the other, causing the 3D effect - it's like a mind trick," explained Clews.

Glory Days 2, due out in early June, is an action shooter that puts you in control of land and air vehicles from WWII eras to the present day. You'll be blasting your way through 16 missions with fighter jets, helicopters and tanks and other weapons, and with up to 250 ground units operating simultaneously, it promises to be chaotic.

Wi-Fi multiplayer is also included, allowing two players to go head-to-head.

Is 3D-illusional graphics the future of games? Look out for more on Glory Days 2 next week on CVG

sounds kinda neat but reminds me of the virtual boy
May the gaming gold have mercy on your soul for that comment. I had a Virtual Boy, and I promise this will be nothing like that. I hear different countries torture people by making them play Virtual Boy for hours on end...
I believe Rad Racer for the NES (Source) had this feature. When you would hit select it would make it 3-D...with the use of the red and blue glasses of course
depends really on how they utilize this. But they shouldn't build the entire game around it. Not everyone will want to use 3-D so it should be optional.

but sounds pretty cool in theory.
i'm sorry, but it sounds pointless to me. the 3D effect is never necessary and adds practically nothing to the game.
Sounds cool but I am still unsure about it.
Sounds cool, but i heard a long time ago that they had to cancel things like this because if you were the glasses to long, you will get eye injury's or something.....
LOL I just watched that 'meet the robinsons' movie in 3d, and they gave out those clear-type glasses. It was actually freaking sweet to watch... this game might be something for me to keep my eyes on
It sounds like a cool idea to me. Although I am unsure about the use of those glasses over a long period of time.
If it's anything like they have in cinemas, then count me in (though I somehow doubt it'll be too similar). Potentially a good idea, aslong as they're just going to be simple card glasses, and not full on hench sun glasses or whatnot..
sounds cool, although it kind of seems a little weird as some people wear glasses so they couldn't play it right if it was only 3d. still, pretty neat.
sounds cool, yet wierd to be wearing 3D glasses to play a video game.
reminds me of Sly 3. The 3d wasn't all that great but it was a neat gimmick.
Hmm, pretty neat. Sounds like some sweetness from the 80's if you ask me. I think it would be cool to own, but I don't think there's a chance in hell that gaming and 3-D glasses will form a franchise with each other spawning more and more games like this though lol...not that anybody said it would, bleh short rant.

eh? does not compute...
anyway

i think this is a terrible idea.

1. 3D glasses are annoying. you have to be sitting with them for about the length of a movie; any longer, and your eyes will start to hurt. idk about you, but I tend to play my games for longer than an hour and a half at a time...and if you walk with them on, they'll hurt. knowing my tendency to get up while im playing a game to either get a snack, or a drink, or take a bathroom break, etc (as im sure others do as well) it'd be a pain in the butt to have to take them off and put them on again and again in order to play

2. if the 3D glasses are not optional, it's not worth buying, imo. Sure, it's a great feature...just no. I don't mind playing in 3D, but I want to have the choice to sit down and play the game one day without having to wear them.

3. this should be left to the movies...or things with a bigger screen than the DS. something that small shouldn't be popping out at you.
