My support goes out to the fais of the ones they lost and I hope they can carry on.
My heart goes out to the 32 men and women who were killed.

Jack Thompson DISGUSTS me.
This guy obviously does not know what he is talking about.
*Sigh* Anybody that actually needed proof that Jack is a horrible excuse for a human being has that now. I don't know why but I'm surprised that he had the cajones to say this. Every news network had its fair share of security/school/law enforcement experts, but none of them said anything quite like that. Then again, Jack isn't like most people, is he? You just don't expect a decent person to say such things.
What the heck is this dudes problem!
He can't just pin something like this on video games!!
That is fudged up...

I hope all the family's are doing ok of the ones who were killed...
I wouldn't be suprised if video games had at least some effect on this incident, but you can't blame it all on it.

anyways... who is jack thompson?
Fox Nine News story on this issue

And now, doctor Phil is blaming video games too!!!

Doctor Phil Wrote:
“The problem is we are programming these people as a society. You cannot tell me - common sense tells you - that if these people are playing video games where they’re on a mass killing spree in a video game, it’s glamorized on the big screen, it’s become part of the fiber of our society. You take that and mix it with a psychopath, a sociopath, or someone suffering from mental illness, add in a dose of rage, the suggestability is just too high. And we’re going to have to start dealing with that. We’re going to have to start addressing those issues and recognizing that the mass murderers of tomorrow are the children of today that are being programmed with this massive violence overdose.” - Dr. Phil on Larry King Live

That makes me mad....

Oh jack thomspon is that lawyer guy against video games...

Well I want to know, if he is against video games and says they make people commit crimes, then why is he, out of anyone, still alive?
Attention. Even Dr Phil said it. And Dr Phil is a a**hat... excuse the lang. but i really dont know what to say. Violece such as these dont go un noticed.. people capitalize on such act and make profit from them. thats what he did.
I also see that these specialists and analysts have failed to mention that this guy was obviously mentally disturbed. Even if video games had something to do with, if he was mentally unstable then you can't put all, if any of the blame on gaming.

Glad I could also open up a place for people to vent.
lawl. "An expert on school shootings"
My a** he's an expert.
OMFG!!
I can't believe it, eventhough I saw the video myself.
He doesn't say anything before hand. The very first thing he jumps into is violent games. My gosh.... his guy needs to have his license taken away.
it didn't take balls to make such a statement...

...it took ignorance
You've got to sort of take it into account though I suppose, just because most of us play video games hat are violent and don't particularly think anything of it, doesn't mean other people are exactly the same. I think he has a bi of a point in what he says, not necessarily in this situation so much, but what gets me sometimes is that people are disgusted at people killing others in reality and yet don't blink an eye to do the same thing in a video game, I mean...don't get me wrong, I play violent games as well but all I'm trying to say is that no wonder we manifest violence in our society when we not only see it in games but in films etc as well. Again don't take what I'm saying the wrong way, what this guy said was out of place in this situation and violence I think, sadly, is just a part of the human condition and isn't likely to change anytime soon.

My thoughts go out to those who lost someone, death is one of those strange things in life, we find it hard to deal with, I don't believe in god or anything but I still don't think death is the end, only the beginning...
R.I.P VT people who lost your lives to something ignorant like this. And then to be treated like this on NATIONAL TV by this a**hat Jack.

Seriously, how do you do that? Not even apologize for what happened really, he just automatically jumped in, what is it that he has against us?(The Video Game Community).

All I can say is, We love you guys (VT students who lost their lives.) and I hope you find peace among wherever you are now, and rest assured.... this Jack Thompson, and what he has done, will not be forgiven.

R.I.P
It is unfortunate that someone as Mr. Thompson and Dr. Phil would use this horrible event to their own ends. This opportunism is well noted by the gaming community and the broader community as well, also the lack of traction that they receive.
I don't know if any of you watched CNN's video interview with the killer's two roommates in which he lived with for a year, but there was never a mention of him EVER playing video games. He stalked at least 3 women, rode his bicycle for hours late at night and listened to lots of music. No Video Games! Weirdest of all, he never had anyone to ever visit him the entire year they all shared the apartment. Not even his parents..... Also he secretly went by the name of ? (question mark) but denied that when confronted by his roommate. The guy was disturbed and mentally evil, I think. His actions may have been caused by a battle raging within himself due to circumstances growing up or any numerous causes...we may never know. We only know that things like this happen and we cannot always control another's actions. We must try to stay out of harm's way and if we see something that just doesn't click, report it to authorities and hope that someone will be able to head off dangerous situations. Those poor souls that were murdered did not deserve to die and I sincerely hope that the grieving families and friends will keep the wonderful memories of their loved ones dear. My heart goes out to them.
Jack Thompson and other ace-hats may have just been bailed out (partially):

Andrew Rosenblum, the host of MTV's video game show GameLife, has been arrested by Boston police for allegedly sending an e-mail to an ex-girlfriend threatening to kill her. According to the Boston Herald, Rosenblum wrote in the e-mail, "(I)'m gonna (expletive) bring a gun to your school and kill you and K (another female student) and everybody you love. It's gonna be VT all over again ... Seriously I'm just that demented ... killing people can change people's lives forever. (T)he best is in the end when I pull the trigger on myself, too."

No saying this guy didn't play video games...  What a clown.

All VT students, parents, faculty, and staff have my condolences. But i do have to ask one thing....I really do wonder what happened to Jack in his life to make him despise the video gaming industry so much and want to make their lives so difficult...also his comments were completely out of line, they would have been best said a few days to a week later if ever.

WaPo writer talks VT shooter/Counter-Strike connection, removal

When a Washington Post story mentioned that Virginia Tech shooter Cho Seung Hui played Counter-Strike in high school, we were intrigued. When the nugget disappeared from an online version of the Post story, we were even more intrigued

To clarify the situation, we caught up with Washington Post Staff Writer David Cho, who was responsible for originally reporting the factoid. Cho said the information was based on talks with some high school acquaintances of Hui's who occasionally saw him playing at an cyber cafe during his high school days.

Cho said there was no solid indication either way whether or not Hui continued to play during three-and-a-half years at college. Hui's college roommates reportedly saw Hui on the computer constantly, but said he was usually writing, not playing games. Cho said a group of Virginia Tech Counter-Strike players he talked to had never heard of Hui, and that Hui hadn't attended a recent Counter-Strike tournament held on campus.

As for the removal, Cho said it was standard practice to replace a rougher online version of a story with the polished print version when it was available. The Counter-Strike connection was removed, Cho said, to make room for more recent, more relevant information. Still, the fact is on file at the Post, Cho said, and it's possible it could make it into a future story.

Limbaugh: Don't scapegoat games for VT massacre

Despite the mainstream media's tendency to scapegoat video games as a cause of senseless violence, we should remember that not all mainstream talking heads feel the same way about our hobby.

Take Rush Limbaugh, who on his radio show yesterday took calls theorizing on the motivation behind the recent Virgina Tech killings. One caller, Mark from Centreville, Va., tried to lay the blame at gaming's doorstep. "I will guarantee you, I'll bet my last dollar in my pocket, that this shooter will be found to have been a compulsive video gamer," he said.

Rush was quick to jump in, pointing out that even if the shooter played games, "not every video gamer goes out and murders 33 people on the college campus though. There's more to this than that." Limbaugh granted that playing games "may desensitize people, but it doesn't turn everybody into mass murderers."

Limbaugh later went on to compare video game censorship to gun control. "How many millions of people play video games, and how many millions of people have guns? If you start blaming the video games, you may as well demand video game control because it's the same thing when you start trying to blame guns for this. You have here a sick individual, an evil individual who committed a random act. But if you want to start blaming the video games, this guy was this or that, well, then you've gotta maybe talk about banning them because that's the same tack that's taken with guns. You got one guy who used a gun, that's it."

So remember, the next time you're griping about mainstream media coverage of games, that said coverage is not a monolithic force with only one point of view.

OMG....

I watched the Youtube video the Jack Thompson was calling in on, and since when is Jack Thompson an "expert on school shootings"?

That's just total BS.
