32 people are dead after a tragic shooting. Why would you go and say something like this?
Before I say anything else, I want to send out my condolences to all those who may have been affected by the Virginia Tech shootings in one way or another. Hopefully none of our members was involved in any way.
And next I want to move onto the feelings I have brewing inside of me right now: venom and anger. Not only because a man went and killed 32 innocent college students, but because now everyone's least favorite atourney at law, Jack Thompson is trying to put himself in the limelight in spite of it.
Not long after the shootings occured Thompson appeared on FOXNews discussing the shootings and linking them directly to violence in video games, without having anything to support his claims; calling them "murder simulators". I've yet to even hear anything about the shooter playing violent video games or whether he even played games at all. In fact, the shooter hasn't even been identified yet, nor do they know why he did it.
I honestly can't believe that Thompson had the balls to say what he did while 32 people lay dead from a shooting while thousands mourned and wept a tragic event. Now, if he came out and spoke to FOX about this a couple days after the shootings then it would be an entirely different issue. I wouldn't agree with his accusations nor would I appreciate his diminishing of the even, but at least he would have given some time for the smoke to clear and just let everyone get their wits about themselves. Not to mention that by that time he may have been able to find something out about the shooter and see if video games played even a microscopic role in it all. And if it did, you'd better believe he'd make it seem like it was the driving force behind it.
Instead he turns to the media with lightning fast reflexes and preaches his regular sermon of how violent video games are turning our children into murderers, drug dealers, and who knows what else.
I normally try to keep from touching any comments that Mr. Thompson may make, but this just makes me sick to my stomach. I can't even begin to imagine how it would feel to be a brother, daughter, mother, father, friend, or relative of any of the deceased, and then see that someone was downplaying the murder of their loved one to such an extent.
I really feel that this time Jack Thompson's crossed the line. This goes far beyond anything relating to video games now, and into a whole other moral issue altogether. What possessed him to make these comments I do not know. Maybe it was a slight error in judgement or maybe he just didn't want everyone to forget about him and his goal of seemingly removing any game without a Sesame Street license from the market.
Well you've got nothing to worry about Jack, we won't be forgetting you anytime soon; not with comments like these. We (the video gaming community) will just continue disliking you while you go on with this witch hunt of yours, trying to make us seem less than human whenever you get the chance.
Once again, my heart goes out to those affected by the shootings. I really wish I could do more, but this is as far as I can go. I hope Mr. Thompson knows that his comments did not go unnoticed.
Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted. - Matthew 5:4

Thanks Mr.luben for finding the video.
WTH does Thompson think hes really gonna do with all his Video game hate. Does he really think he can make Video Games illegal or somthin' like dat, lol?!?!?
Anyways, My condolences to anybody that was affected
I graduated from Virginia Tech in May, and I still live in Blacksburg. I work about 2 blocks from campus right on main street, and I could see the parade of police cars, ambulances, FBI and SWAT vehicles come into town, it was surreal.
I found out a good friend of mine was shot twice in the leg, He's in the ICU but apparently doing well and hopefully he'll be okay.
oh and Jack Thompson is a moron
You've gotta be kidding me. The automatic censors are going to get a break here, since I'll replace all the bad words with stars, and the Jedi are definitely going to feel this one...
Jack Thompson: what the f*** are you doing pulling this kind of s*** in such a crisis like this? You have got to be the most s***-faced, mother-f******, heartless son of a b**** that ever came into the law office, and now you pull this crap on us? WHAT THE F*** IS WRONG WITH YOU???
I can already tell you now that nobody likes you, not even your "esteemed" peers in the Florida law firms. Everyone thinks you're a senile d*****, and the you'd do the world a favor if you'd just never appear again.

What balls this guy has...
Anyway, my heartfelt condolences go out to the family and friends of the 32 deceased VT students. You shall never be forgotten.
I know advertising is against the rules, but I think it's appropriate this time. This was on my campus' website:
Please join hands with college students across the world in remembering the victims, students, and families of Virginia Tech tomorrow, Tuesday, April 17. Wear maroon or orange ribbons or shirts to show that you have them in your thoughts. For more information and to help spread the word, please visit the Facebook events. Remembrance Day, A Day of Remembrance, and Day of Mourning for Virginia Tech.
If you feel in doing so, you can participate in this, as well.
Requiescat in Pace.
I dont get what this Jach dum@$$ really wants, their are millions and billions of people who play video games, and why dont see these things going on everyday! I just dont get it!
You know what hes probably mad cuz his father never bought him a Video Game System and this is his revenge or sumthin lol!!!
RIP VT People
The video game industry has little to fear from a worthless piece of meat like this person Jack Thompson. He's been annoying in the past, and we've all disagreed with him once, twice, twenty times, but what we see now is the real Jack Thompson. The "man" who will do his best to capitalize on this tragedy and get a little more face time on television and get his words printed in news papers.
Perhaps this will be the straw that broke the camels back. Maybe now people will see him for who he really is. An opportunist and a truly worthless "human being".
Jack Tossin'Men is a tard.
Let me start by saying that it is a terrible thing that happened today, and anyone that was affected by this, my thoughts and prayers go out to you.
But in the grand scheme of things, now state and federal governments are going to use this to try and strip Americans of more civil liberties. Along side that, we're going to see the media revisit Columbine. And because this even makes Columbine look like a church picnic, I wouldn't be surprised if we see a made for TV ABC or Lifetime movie. If this would have happened in Israel or Lebanon how much attention do you think this would have gotten? Not very much. But because the US of A is so sheltered now every channel on network television is going to be jumping on this because to them this is nothing but money, money, money and rating ratings ratings. Which is just going to push more people who are advocates of ignorance to protest for more controlling laws over firearms and other constitutional rights because they can't come to terms with the fact that there are just evil people out there who are psychologically unstable and have sociopathological tendencies.
I'm sure there will be some here that may agree or disagree with my views and opinions, but we all know it's going to happen. Give it a few weeks or months and we're gonna have fat women with mini mullets and people with anal stick grafts calling for more gun control legislation, when it really does nothing...*cough cough black market cough cough**
That's awful... 32 innocent people died because of idiot with a gun. How can someone be so heartless as to end 32 futures? All of them were going to college and trying to make something of themselves when some coward with a vendetta decides that he's going to let his selfishness rule is actions and murder them all. That's cold. I can't believe that. I just hope they have eternal life now... if not, then I am disappointed beyond words right now.
Tighten gun laws.
They are stupid creations anyway.
Its sad this has happened, but we all know how much of a knob Jack Thompson is.
R.I.P
I have no comment on Jack Thompson.
what a pitiful world we live in when any idiot can grab a gun and kill 32 people. It just saddens me...
jack thompson can rot in hell
Well this is a good place to vent some anger. After seeing this story unfold yesterday I became nothing short of enraged. I do not understand why some coward who is going to take his own life in the first place has to take 32 innocent people down with him. There is just something I do not understand about that. If you are going to kill yourself just do it and leave anyone else out of it.
Now to try and place the blame on video games or anything else is just asinine. One psychotic kid does not constitute a witch hunt on the video game industry or the 2nd Amendment. The root of the problem lies with lawmakers ineffectiveness to pass anything worthy of being called gun control while remaining constitutional and true to the 2nd. The other being that there are nothing but idiots claiming to be working to better and further this country. Politicians are a joke. Granted there are a few honest ones who aren't just selfish bastards trying to work themselves up the "self-righteous" ladder. It is very hard to stay an honest politician. You either get run out or turn to their side. Now that I've gotten off on a tangent I will not even address the issue of Jack Thompson because of the stupidity and placement of his comments.
My thoughts and prayers are with the students and families of Virginia Tech's deceased.
My heart goes out to those affected by the shooting yesterday. My friend was there, but luckily she was in a different classroom than the ones he went into. Nobody knows the full details of what happened or why, yet, hell nobody's identities are even being released to the public. This is considered the worst shooting in American history, and yet here is Fox News broadcasting a guy who is throwing insults and the blame on something that has nothing to do with school shootings. If anybody is to blame (which it's too early to blame ANYONE at the moment), I would say whoever was in the dorm room before he went psychotic (i suspect they might have been the cause or at least the shooter's breaking point), the college's failure to at least give the students a heads-up on what was going on and keep their eyes open for anybody acting suspicious, and whoever allowed the shooter access to the gun are responsible.
I know it's wrong, but I am going to laugh in Jack Thompson's face if it turns out the shooter never once played a FPS. And even if he did, it's impossible to say that playing a game can bring out a psychotic urge to kill 32 people in the timeframe of two hours. And I really want to hurt Fox News for even taking the time to listen to him at this point. I've always hated Fox, for their skewed and shrewed news reporting, but even they should have had the decency to decline him airtime. At least until things with the shooting have been sorted out and understood. I swear, the country's communication system is being run by idiots.
Two tragedies have happened. One is that 32 people have lost their lives and futures, 32 families have lost a loved one and countless friends have lost their friends. The second tragedy happened a very long time ago and that was the day Jack was born. To try to make this about him and his "ideals" just shows him for who he truly is. My condolences go out to all of those who lost a loved one in this tragedy and God bless you all. In my believe they are in a much better place now that is completely Jack free.
Honestly, this entire thread is doing nothing more than giving people like Mr. Thompson exactly what they want: Publicity. It's very common. A certain individual (or sometimes a group of individuals) decides they want to get their face in the public for a variety of reasons. It may be to gain political attention, attention for a business, who knows? But they have one goal: To bring negative attention to something they dislike.
People pacify their need to explain what happens by blaming something else...usually something they feel they can try to control. This is something that has been happening for decades and decades. They try to censor music, movies, video games or prohibit the use of alcohol (this is a small sampling of examples). The most current witch hunt happens to be video games. In recent history, it's been violence in movies/TV during the late 90's. Music has been the target over and over again. Look at Elvis in the 50's. Metal in the 80's. Manson in the 90's. Go all the way back to the 30's and it was alcohol. It has happened around the world and throughout time.
People have committed senseless acts of violence throughout history...before video games, movies, music with objectionable lyrics, guns, etc. It happens because that individual makes a choice. Not because something else made them do it. And you flat out cannot control people.
It's very unlikely the witch hunts will ever end. People will always have their agendas and other people will always have something at their disposal to use to commit such senseless acts. Until then, fight back.

Jack Thompson
He is a waste of space, air and food
He needs to be removed, I don't like his type polluting the gene pool.
That is just sick.
You do not use 30 deaths to get attention.
That's just f***ing twisted.
Burn in h*** you p***less t***
:O D4RK!! For shame! We try to keep these forums PG-13, remember?
That looked like what normal 13 year old kids say nowadays and in this case it almost IS called for. What a .... (wii).
Honestly, this entire thread is doing nothing more than giving people like Mr. Thompson exactly what they want: Publicity.
This thread isn't giving him what he wants. CNN.com, ABC, NBC, CBS, FOX...Every major news outlet is giving him what he wants right now.
