Has it really been 20 years since Final Fantasy hit the NES? Someone (not me) should figure out just how many Final Fantasy-related games Square Enix's managed to squeeze out in that two decade span, but they'll be adding two more to the mix this summer, as the "remastered" editions of Final Fantasy I and Final Fantasy II for the PSP find themselves here.

You may have already played through touched up versions of these RPG foundations on the Game Boy Advance, but the PSP versions may actually be worth revisiting, as they include a welcome 16:9 widescreen presentation on the PSP screen, redone character art, updated graphics, new dungeons, a tweaked camera.

Final Fantasy I hits on June 26, with Final Fantasy following less than a month later on July 24.

June 26th is my birthday. I'm happy.

Now if only I had a PSP.
If I had a PSP I would get this, pretty much to make my PSP a FF only system..

Square just keeps comin with the remake's and rakes in the money.
im can finally be proud for owning a psp.......sorta
Blow the dust off eh?
lol.. My friend pretty much uses his PSP as a paperweight.
Not sure if he likes FF though.. I know he owns FF8 and is playing that >.>
darn you SquareEnix for making things better after buying them
*shakes fist*

i was so proud of my FF I&II on my GBA, now this comes to make it look worthless.
You can probably still find the remade versions of 1 and 2 for the PS1...It's hard to find, but my cousin did.
heh... I hate Enix. Square was awsome.

Why did you make that flop movie Square? Why!?

Since its for the PSP I doubt I'll ever look into it, but I'm curious for some screenshots, to see exactly how "remastered" it will be.
It's not hard to find Final Fantasy Origins at all.
Yes, but the FF2 on this disc isn't that great...
Rofl, I thought they were remaking those games for the PS3. Almost got excited... I don't want to pick up a PSP for this game although it sounds worth it.
I will pick up a PSP for Crisis Core, these two games will just make my PSP slightly more useful.

Its the same game as the other FFII's.

New Remastered Editions of FINAL FANTASY and FINAL FANTASY II Announced for PSP® system
Los Angeles (Apr. 17, 2007)
Square Enix, Inc., the publisher of Square Enix™ interactive entertainment products in North America, announced today that it is commemorating the 20th anniversary of the FINAL FANTASY® franchise by releasing completely remastered anniversary editions of FINAL FANTASY and FINAL FANTASY II, exclusively for the PSP® (PlayStation®Portable) system. FINAL FANTASY, the global phenomenon that spawned numerous sequels, leading to more than 75 million units in worldwide shipments, will ship to retailers across North America on June 26, 2007 and FINAL FANTASY II will ship to retailers on July 24, 2007. Both titles contain entirely new content, allowing fans to take the best treatment of these classics anywhere their real life adventures may take them.

Originally released in Japan in 1987, FINAL FANTASY has been hailed by gamers and critics as one of the first RPGs to create a fantasy world that captured the imagination of players around the globe. Each game has brought new worlds and characters together with impressive graphics and storylines that have evolved into a one-of-a-kind series with a massive worldwide following. With unique characters, vast worlds and compelling storylines, the FINAL FANTASY series has generated its own subculture with the release of 28 console, online and handheld games, two CG-animated films and 49 music soundtracks worldwide.

“So much has changed within the video game industry since the first console was launched, and FINAL FANTASY has always pushed the envelope, creating the most advanced graphics and immersive storylines possible,” said Executive Producer Shinji Hashimoto. “It is amazing to see how far FINAL FANTASY has come in the past twenty years, and we cannot wait to continue bringing fans more FINAL FANTASY titles in the next 20 years.”

Remastered as two separate titles exclusively for the PSP system, FINAL FANTASY and FINAL FANTASY II are timeless classics that created the blueprints for the future of RPGs. These all-new anniversary editions contain the best treatment of the classic RPGs and feature all-new character art, updated graphics, new dungeons, full 16:9 widescreen presentation and an updated camera view that gives players a new vantage point on two of the greatest RPGs ever made.

In FINAL FANTASY, the tale begins when four young warriors, each possessing a Crystal, are summoned to bring the world back to a harmonious elemental balance. During their voyage, they discover a nefarious entity has created turmoil in the structure of time in order to take control of the world, causing the heroes to travel to places they never imagined possible.

In FINAL FANTASY II, a malevolent emperor has called upon monsters from a demonic realm to take over the world, ending what seemed to be an eternal period of peace. Thousands of lives succumb to their attacks, leaving many children orphaned. From the destruction rise four young survivors who will take it upon themselves to stop the merciless ruler and avenge the death of their parents.

FINAL FANTASY is rated E10+ (Everyone 10 and older) by the Entertainment Software Rating Board (ESRB) and will ship to retailers on June 26, 2007. FINAL FANTASY II is rated T (Teen) and will ship to retailers on July 24, 2007. For more information about the ESRB, please visit: http://www.esrb.org. The anniversary editions of FINAL FANTASY and FINAL FANTASY II will be available separately at North American retailers for the suggested retail price of $29.99 (USD) each.
