I only have CS2

CS2 is good enough, CS3 adds a few more tools making cloning and selection a bit easier, then in the extended edition there is 3D features so you can import 3D models which could turn out to be very useful, and also video editing.

I'm extremely impatient... so how long does it take to start getting the hang of CS2?
04-20-2007, 07:11 PM
A while.
I'd get some tutorials. To get used to it, and learn some great techniques, try this place. It may not be for sigs, but it'll help you get the hand of CS2.

Just to let you know in advance, don't use brushes. They are almost never used, and you shouldn't get used to using them for easy backgrounds.
Most backgrounds will be made using the filters. I'd just fiddle around with the filters, learn what each one does, and also, use the blending options a lot. (Darken, Colour Dodge, etc)

I use brushes quite a bit...
And what if you are a digital painter.....
One thing you really must learn is the Pen tool, its _SO_ helpful.

Yay my first design was my avatar...
It was just flat purple 1 colored, and i shrink wrapped it and added an outer glow...
But I really want to learn how to render images (as in delete the unwanted background). I know you use the magic wand, I just down know how to use it properly

Just a quick question. I have been really couriuse about photo shop, so were can you get it?

Buy it for about 600$, Time trial, or.. get it illegally. >.>
To use magic wand, to get rid of unwanted bg, it needs to be mono schemed. Like.. all white, or all black. You can also have a couple more colours in the bg, but if they're to many. If they blend too well to the Render, pull out the eraser.
And, lets say, its mono-coloured, but it blends in with the render, you can lower the setting of the wand, so it wont also select part of the render (Wand's settings go from 1 - 255) the settings right below "View".
What you do for those difficult ones is, take the Pentool (Your best friend) and ink around the render, making everything outside of it black/white/whatever you want, then just delete that colour when you're done.
^ This requires practise.
The most time consuming one is the eraser/Magicwand combo. It's also the easiest to learn. I still do it. >.>
I actually just started using the Pentool. And I suggest you do the same.

For cutting things from backgrounds use the pen tool, can't beat it.
Refine edges in CS3 then tidies up messy cuts but CS2 doesn't have that

CS3 sounds more and more pleasing to me... I should try the trial.
04-21-2007, 02:31 PM
Yea, i had it since the BETA and i was soo impressed i had to get the full version. Not sure there is the extended version as a trial there might be but im not sure, you will only miss out on 3d importing and video editing though.
04-21-2007, 02:39 PM
Ah, the beta, I was gonna get that, but the trial was only 2 days, so I ddn't bother. And I saw a trail for extended version, yes.
Whoops, lets get this back on track >.>
Good-tutorials is great. I would give you some graphics forums, they usually have at least 1 or 2 trials worth your time, but thats adverising >.>.
And this other forum I used to go to also has some great tuts, I'd port them over here if it was allowed. I might PM the makers to see if I can.
I'll come back with a response later.

CS3 to me seems like it's not worth it. Once you know Shop inside and out tiny additional features like add-ons that CS3 brings seem like more of a waste of money than anything.
04-21-2007, 05:24 PM
You could say that about CS to CS2 though and most other next versions.
CS3 adds more than just little addons the GUI has been improved ALOT, makes the work area nicer. I suppose if you don't do big work in Photoshop there is no need for CS3, but if you do lots of work those new features can make life much easier.
Plus for designers now integration between the 'macromedia' products and adobe is much better, and much easier to work with.
If you work with 3d or video again CS3 is better.
To take full advantage of CS3 you need the other CS3 apps.
And if your running a intel Mac its a must really, the performance increase is great.

I've got a question
When I am rendering a pick through Filters>Extract, When I zoom in, it won't let me zoom out. Is there anyway that I can zoom out?
