A new sample of more than 3000 Australian consumers indicates that Sony will continue to dominate the games console space in coming years, despite being late to market with the PlayStation 3. The findings of the report The Connected Home in 2007 from Connection Research suggest that Sony is likely to sell more than 100 million PS3 consoles, emulating the success of the two earlier models, according to one of the authors.

Apparently the PS3 has a 10 year life, which means that is 10 million consoles a year. But without a price drop I don't think that would be reasonable to think this
100 million is quite a lot, and I guess it really depends on the other consoles out there. I look at it this way...
When you take the PS3 and Xbox 360, both very powerful systems, it's possibly to have them around for many many years. This also benefits the consumer, because the longer a system is out, the better the games get. It Microsoft decides to do a decade or whatever stint with the Xbox 360, there might be the chance of both systems being on a 10 year run. The wild card is Nintendo. The Wii isn't made to be a decade system, so if Nintendo came out with a groundbreaking new system in 4 years, the other would have to play along and do the same.

um....nope, I think they were asked their opinions. this is done all the time, so I wouldn't let it get you too saddle sore.
that's about 1 ps3 for every 1...2...3...70 people on the face of the planet. that's insane. i'll get a ps3 eventually, after i get some other things taken care of first, but i'll have 2 or 3 wiis, especially since ninty's one to upgrade and expand on what already exists. it wouldn't surprise me if we were still hold strong to our 360s/ps3s in 6, 7, or even 8 years, but a decade is really pushing it, especially for the 360, which for a next gen system is a little too limited in power and "future-proof-ness" to outlast the ps3. i'm expecting the wii to last 3-maybe 4-years because ninty said that the whole wii thing was more or less a trial run to see how something like it would go, and it definately go'd pretty well.

100 million?? You sure that they didn't accidentally add a second zero in there,or maybe meant to say "100 thousand"?
I think they are just trying to compare it to the PS2, since it sold over 100 million worldwide. But the PS2 wasn't nearly as expensive... and it actually had/has some good games compared to the PS3 at this point...
