Like a bad Sunday afternoon rerun of a Poroit, this mystery starts off with the usual suspects: kids, a confined PS3, an exposed XBOX 360, and mucking around on a typical morning. This, of course, becomes a recipe for murder and as John Davidson finds out that the motive was simply one entertainment unit wasn't big enough for the both of them. As one child accidently turns on the PS3 while the Xbox is being actively played, unforeseen events unfold:
"Needless to say, temperatures rise, fans kick in, then more fans kick in, then some new, untold level of nuclear reactor-grade cooling kicks in deep within the bowels of the PS3, and the first thing I know of this is when a little voice cries, "Dad, something's wrong with my game."
"Conditions in the confined space had become so super-heated that the 360 red-ringed out, big time. So. Bottom line, my PS3 killed my 360."
Death by heating fan. Could be the first, probably won't be the last. Kim Phu

That's just messed up. Why would he turn them both on at the same time considering one person was already playing the 360? Did they have two T.V.s side by side. They can't afford to buy a bigger, better ventilated entertainment center but they own both the PS3 and 360? Smells fishy but funny nonetheless.
From what I read, it was the kids who did this. I do find it odd though, how the PS3 seems to shut itself off when it gets too hot, like a PC would, but as far as I know, the Xbox 360 just keeps getting hotter till it can't take it anymore.
If you click on the source and check for the postings on this, there are some pretty funny ones. One guy talks about how the Xbox 360 power brick gets hot enough to melt carpet

LMAO. I was reading and according to one reader the 360 is also supposed to shut off if it gets too hot and two red lights will come on but not sure why theirs didn't.

when you get a ps3, you're definately getting your money's worth, that's for sure.
I know when the PS3 for first shown to us, we all kind of complained about the size, but at least we don't have that Huge power brick that apparently can get really hot. I'm sure future versions of the 360 will have an auto shut off and get rid of the 1 red light=OH MY GOD 2 red lights=SEE YOU IN HELL SOLDIER.
and through all of this i've had my precious little wii over a bruise i got yesterday. that little white box makes a great ice pack.
360 really does gets super hot, and fast. At my house (since I have a young daughter), I have to keep my consoles under lock and key. Which is fine for the Wii and PS2, they don't heat up that much. But when it comes to the 360, I either have to limit my play time to less than an hour, or wait until the young'n has gone to bed so I can leave the enclosure door open for ventilation.
Playing my 360 for even 15 minutes with that door closed is enough to heat up the entire enclosure to about 90 degrees. Needless to say, most of my 360 time is spent late in the evening when the munchkin is sleeping ^__^
Oh dear. That poor 360 taken before its time. So sad.
The cooler running chipset that will launch sometime in the future should help with this overheating issue.....at least a little. I know a lot of people are disappointed that it didn't come with the Elite, but oh well.
i thought the 360 elite ran cooler and stuff. G4 said it did.
Nope, the Elite does not have the chipset everyone thought it would have, that'll be put into new systems in a couple months.
