Hey does anyone here use a Flash SSD instead of an equivalent HDD for their PC? I've always wanted one. HDD's are so damn noisy and take so much longer to load things. (SSD 100x faster approx. according to wiki)
Imagine no loading times as such when you load up your OS.
Well didn't Microsoft originally intended for all Vista PCs to use them as standard, but this never came about?
Also, of course, SSDs are a hell of a lot more expensive when compared to HDD equivalents...
Hey, I hope nobody minds me ressurecting this thread. It's not that old and after all this is Off-Topia!
I never got anyone's opinions on Flash SSDs and I genuinely wanted to know.
Lox if I'm breaking a rule...
SSDs, if you have a few thousand pounds then go ahead and get one, but afaik hey aren't available at any decent size for a low price.
besides you could just as easily get a decent case with acoustic sheilding and then RAID-0,5 together a few 1TB drives for the same money.
And the noisier parts of your computers are going to be the fans and your optical media readers.
If you want a quieter computer, invest in water cooling or zalman fans to get rid of fans and then get some acoustic sheilding for your optical drives.
Best start of getting a nice case though. then do your fans. then if you still have money to burn go for some SSDs but its a bit of a waste tbh.
on my games machine I have 2 500GB WD drives and on my web dev machine I have an 80GB OEM and a 200GB WD.
And the noisiest one is the 80GB OEM. but you can still hardly tell over all the fans (I haven't put watercooling in it yet. I don't really see the point as I don't intend to overclock it

)
all this and you're 16? explain!
I rock.
and had a kick ass job until a year ago
+ I'm a pro web designer

What job man? and all that equipment must have cost you a **** load

not really, you can get some great deals if you look hard enough.
My local newspaper payed rediculous amounts for delivering papers. I did a 100 paper round at 25p a paper that worked out at £25 a week and I got my x1800 in 3 months (it was about £200 when I bought it) and I didn't even miss out on any social life
besides you can get about £200 a month on minimum wages at Tescos down here if you max out your legal hours. Some kids get EMA too which is £30 per week/month (I can't remember) from the government just for being poor and turning up at school. (it sucks that my dad's a director at where he works because I don't get any EMA :/)
