Is Mario on the prowl for a new North American home?

May 7, 2007 - Last week, rumors surfaced that Nintendo might be moving some contingent of its American forces to either San Francisco or New York City. Sources close to Nintendo have hinted to IGN that such a move may very well occur, and that it may happen in the near future.

Although a massive relocation of NOA's entire workforce -- including localization, testing, customer service, human resources, and more -- seems like an impossible undertaking, our sources allege that the majority of this move's burden will rest on NOA's sales and marketing departments. According to insiders, certain NOA staff members were given an ultimatum last Thursday asking them to choose between the move and a severance package come June.

Nintendo of America's Redmond, Washington office has been the North American home of the Japanese publishing giant since 1982 when the company consolidated its facilities. NOA seems to be very firmly rooted in the Seattle area, so a full-scale move seems highly unlikely. Several key NOA executives have lived in Seattle for quite some time and might be unwilling to relocate to San Francisco or New York.

Just how many employees this potential move could affect is still up in the air. We contacted Nintendo of America, but no official statement was available in time for publication. As soon as we can shed some more light on this rumor, we will.

i hope they move to New York, that way i'm closer to Nintendo if they were to have some kine of event.

I feel sorry for the workers who have to relocate or find another job. Just think if you worked there since they opened in 82'. That would suck if it were entirely possible to relocate. I bet the severance package will be quite nice though. Still, doing something for so long and then having to start over sucks.
yea i agree, idk if i'd move with Nintendo or find a new job.
It's Nintendo. I would be glad to work for them, so I would be happy to relocate with them. But I don't think it'll be a big problem if they relocate.
yea but i'd think most of them would have families.
Yeah but willingness to relocate = increase in pay.
i hope they move to San Francisco so that I'm closer to Nintendo of America. That would be awesome! (Sorry Brawler...)
New York seems like a likely area. I hope these people can find jobs if they don't stay with Nintendo.
Very interesting find, Brawler.

If a move to New York means that they do events and such near the Tuckessee area (Kentucky/Tennessee), then I'm all for it.
where in the world is the nintendo of america (carmen sandiego music)

Sad. but they're more likely, if this is true, to move to New York because they have that huge store there. i think its called Nintendo World or something.

There are lready Nintendo events in New York. So moving there wouln't really change a thing event wise.

except its the exact opposite. if this move were to happen, they'll some huge celebration and say "oh its the start of a whole new Nintendo" and give away these prizes. and that'll only be after they move.
But there is already a Nintendo World in NYC for them to have a celebration.
I hope nintendo doesn't leave the seattle area. I am within 50 miles of their HQ in Redmond.
I'm in the middle of Seatlle and NYC... well, I gues its easier to access Seattle, but its not like I'd purposly drive hundrads of KM just to go to a Nintendo event.

This sucks for the long term employees.
I know if I had a family, I'd put them first.
Hopefully they'll fnd a just as good job and manage.
Hopefully they would get money to help pay for the expenses of moving their family.
