Remember the promotion Wenis posted of Wendy's selling Wii Toys... Read on and you'll see!

Quote:
In the latest chapter of his crusade against the world of violent videogames, the outspoken attorney Jack Thompson has attacked the fast food chain, Wendy’s, in regards to its current Kids’ Meal promotion, which the chain is running in partnership with Nintendo.

GameAlmighty.com reports that the meal in question is served with a variety of toys that include reference to Super Mario, Excite Truck, Wii Sports amd the Wii remote. However, it is the console’s association with the forthcoming Manhunt 2 that is troubling our favourite anti-videogames campaigner . Below is the letter that Mr Thompson sent to Wendy’s, warning the firm of the nature of Rockstar Games’ violent title and asking them politely to end the promotion at once:

On July 10, an extremely violent video game will be released for “play” on Nintendo’s kid-friendly Wii game platform. It is called Manhunt 2. It will feature, according to video game news sites, beheadings with hatchets, bludgeonings with baseball bats, the jamming of syringes into eyeballs, cutting opponents’ testicles off, and “environtmental [sic] kills” in which common objects in the field of vision, such as electrical cords to strangle victims. I attach news reports in these regards.

What makes this Nintendo Wii game all the more troubling is the nature of Wii platform itself. Instead of holding in one’s hand the typical game controller, the player holds motion capture devices, so that by moving one’s hands and limbs one is actually acting out with one’s own body the violent behavior. The American Psychological Association in August 2005 found a direct causal link between the play of violent video games and increased adolescent and teen aggression. One pro-video game industry site is referring to Manhunt 2 as a “true murder simulator” when played on Wii.

A dear friend of mine worked for Wendy’s and with Dave Thomas closely for years. From that I know that Dave Thomas never would have tolerated the use of Wendy’s good name to promote Nintendo’s Wii, not with this game available on the Wii platform.

Please cancel the Wii Kids’ Meal promotion immediately.

Jack Thompson is well known within the industry for criticising games that he deems as inappropriate. Before today’s revelations, his most recent outburst was in the light of the Virginia Tech shootings, after which he spoke on American television as a “School Shootings Expert” to blame interactive entertainment as the cause for the tragic events. While those allegations were hardly based on any concrete evidence, today’s story - the relation between a set of children’s toys that make no reference at all to Manhunt 2 - seems to be scraping the barrel just a bit too much.

OMG this guy just cant control himself!!!

When I read this yesterday I couldn't stop laughing everytime I thought about it. This guy is nuts.
Lol @ Jack Thompson. No one even takes him seriously anymore.

My friend e-mailed him once, and I think he even got a reply.
Care to share it with us LM?
I have seriously thought of emailing him on several occasions because I want to get a chance to maybe see what he has to say about all these things. But after reading through some of his email conversations from his own website and even the one with the guy from VGCats I decided against it.
It's always awkward when you're the more mature person in a conversation and the person you're speaking to is about three times your age.
Jack Is Evil...

its a damn video game. if someone killed a person and blamed it on a game, they were already sick in the head to begin with and even try and kill someone whether they saw it on the game or not.

In a letter to Mr. David Walsh, founder of the National  Institute on Media and the Family; Jack Thompson Wrote:
Best Buy is presently pre-selling, to adults and to children, the Columbine simulator game, Bully? You do know that, right, David?
...
The entire ESRB rating system is a joke. It is a tool for marketing violence to kids. It does not stop the sale of violence to kids. You know that. It would be better if we had no system, and then parents would not have been fooled (...?) for more than a decade into thinking that the system was actually protecting their kids.
...
Liberals, (he says it like an insult, eventhough he probably doesn't know what his political affiliations really are) like you, love to label things and then think that the labeling has accomplished something.
...
Dave, it is laughable, it is absurd, that you have copied your email to Bill Gates, of all people. This is a guy whose Halo trained Malvo to kill in D.C. (and I'm sure the guy's father, who was a trained soldier and taught him how to fire a rifle had nothing to do with it)

In a letter to Senator Joe Lieberman as a response to Walsh's letter, Jack Thompson Wrote:
You see, Senator, I am presently suing Best Buy and Target over Take-Two's planned release of Bully, a Columbine simulator in which you can bludgeon your classmates and teachers. (I agree that Bully shouldn't even be touched by kids, but calling it a "Columbine simulator" is a little extreme)
...
Doug Lowenstein, in my opinion, is [i]personally responsible
for a number of deaths. He is paid well to spin like the worst propagandists in history.
...
When Doug Lowenstein says the industry wants kids not to buy these games, he is lying. When he says there is no proof that these games hurt kids, he is lying.
...
I made enemies in the process. I am proud to count Doug Lowenstein as one of them. (I kind of chuckled at that. Keep your friends close, but your enemies closer)

In a letter to Marylan Dean, who worked on The Sims 2. It's about the pixelated "nudity". Jack Thompson Wrote:
(note: he is about to refer to this image)
The picture you've sent [immediately below my letter] is objectionable for a 13 year old as far as I'm concerned, particularly since it is embedded in the Sims 2 game, unclockable easily with a simple cheat code that is being distributed by the New York Times! (I looked it up, and it isn't as easy as he makes it seem)
...
Electronic Arts is in fact collaborating with the modders to put pubic hair, genitalia, nipples, etc. on the Sims 2 figures, including the children. (now what exactly would EA gain by doing this?) The pedophiles out there love it, which is why the mods are all over the adult porn sites. (O_o)

It's idiots like these that give gamers a bad name. I actually seriously hope that Jack managed to get some sorts of charges laid against them to smarten them up.

In a letter to Senators Clinton and Lieberman, Jack Thompson Wrote:
The use of death threats in retaliation for my participation in the public square serves to prove, rather convincingly, that the violent video games are having the attitudinal effect that psychologists such as Dr. David Walsh and others who have testified before Congress say they have.

No... they're just morons.

And now this is where it all falls apart for Jack. It's his shortsighted and seemingly immature replies that I really hate.

Marylan Dean (from above) Wrote:
Dear Mr. Thompson:

It's no wonder you are recieving death threats, if you have responded to other people in the same manner you have responded to me. I am sorry you are so angry, I hope you can find peace.

Nothing wrong there as far as I can tell. And from now on, I don't think anymore commentary will be needed. You can draw your own conclusions.

In response, Jack Thompson Wrote:
Oh, I'm not angry. I'm just very determined and successful against nitwits who have nothing better to do with their lives than play video games and corrupt other people's kids. you are so self-righteous, so sad, and so aimless.

Marylan Dean Wrote:
Wrongo, tiny one. You are very angry. I'm praying for you that you find peace.

Jack Thompson Wrote:
Got it, honey. I'll pray you have no more children.

No, that's not a typo. And just to get the point across:
"I'll pray you have no more children." - Jack Thompson, Saturday, July 23, 2005 3:51 PM.

And that my friends is why I will never resort to writing Jack Thompson an email. I could easily write an entire article about him but I don't want to go through the trouble of having him threaten me with his empty lawsuits. If you read all this, I applaud you.

My source for all that.
