So.. did they make compatibility worse or better?
They're pretty vague...
This looks promising...hopefully somewhere hidden in there is DVD upscaling, or at least an option to play BD Movies at 720p instead of only 480 or 1080 (As I have no 1080p, only 1080i, and 720p is supposed to look better right???)
Yup 720p looks better then 1080i
unless you've got a monster 108" HDTV where the pixels are an inch big or something, interlacing doesn't really make all that much of a difference. there are even place that interlaced signals look better than progressive (i.e. RE4 GCN played on Wii in 480p. it looks like a jumbled up pile of, well, you get it.). also, if you're like me and your HDTV is an LCD and is between 1280x720 and 1920x1080 (mine's 1366x768) but doesn't support a full 1080p signal, a resized 1080i will look better than an enlarged 720p. LCDs are really the worst displays for gaming because the pixels are so close together and perfectly square so they bring out jaggies more than projection and plasma displays and have slower reaction times and less displayable colors.
