I honestly thought controls would go in the Notice section, but nope... Sakurai surprised us and went with Game Modes. Maybe some game modes will require use of certain controls? Or maybe that'll be a condition of some of the game modes.

Also, when selecting a control method will it be done on the Character Select Screen or elsewhere?
I wonder how they expect us to play with a sideways Wii-Mote.
I'm sure they'll tell us eventually. Ricky how come you didn't add Pikachu and Kirby.

i'll try all four, and most likely use GCN Controller or CC. but how will you play with the wiimote sideways?

I'll try all for as well out of curiosuty.

I also think the controls being in the game modes section might be because different modes could require different controls.

Metal Slug gave a bunch of options control-wise, and after trying them all out extensively, I went back to the wavebird.
Fire Emblem also gave us the same variety of choices for controls. So Smash isn't the first, but its still a nice extra to have.
Oh yea, I was one who actually posted that and it was the exact same options I believe, correct me if I'm wrong.
I'm glad they have so many different control options. But I have the feeling that the Wii Remote+Nunchuk will have the advantage in multiplayer...
I have a feeling it won't. The Wiimote + Nunchuck combo might end up being awkward.

GCN control will be easiest because it will be familiar to any Smash player.
I think the Wiimote sideways will the most akward of them all because you probably have to do more gestures with it, then with the Wiimote/Nunchuck combo.
That, will most likely be true.

But I think it will go like this GCN Control > CC Control > Wiimote + Nunchuck > Wiimote.

Speaking of Smash, I must go to bed as I have an SSBM tournament in 12 hours. Go to my OT thread to wish me luck please :3
That order seems right.
Well at least you can see there trying really hard Toungue, they probably have a control team for each one.
Probably..does anyone know how many people are working on this game?
We know the Music Composers >.>

Probably a lot. LMX might know.

Having any sort of gestures will not work whatsoever in a game like Smash. An incredible amount of precise timing is required that can only be achieved through good old fashioned button pressing.
Best update yet! Good on Sakurai's part to implement all possible control options. I'll try 'em all except the CC (since i dont have one Big Grin). I bet they will all be comfortable, and not awkard as some have posted!
I don't think there would tons of gestures for the sideways Wiimote, just some. It's a whole new control scheme to try and master.

But you see Ricky, that's where you are wrong. Someone might not want to use the GCN again, might hate the CC and try the Wiimote controls and find out they suck. What about that difficult person.

Obviously that probably won't happen, but someone could still be unhappy if they are really that picky... which I doubt.

at that point the person probably shouldnt be playing this game

omfg Best News yet. I wasn't expecting this from Game Modes, but this is great news.

maybe the game modes will be divided into what control style you use. idk.

it works both ways, the precise timing needed can also be gone just right for some ppl.

This is correct, peoplel. Nailing these movements to pull off precise combos in Smash is near impossible. So they have no use in competitive play... although, they might be fun at Smashfests.
