That's right, folks. As of Saturday, I have received word that I am officially EMPLOYED for a summer job that pays $6.50 an hour. (50 cents higher than what I asked for

)
I'm working in my town's new "waterpark" as concessions staff. I put waterpark in quotations because compared to where I used to live, this is just a pond with a rope swing. Seriously, it has two slides, a pool, and what I call a "Shower Shroom". (Mushroom shape with water dripping from the top to form a shower on the outside)
Oh well. It pays better than my campus job I had a few months back.
Although I will be putting a lot of money in savings and checking accounts (actually, my mother is forcing me to), I will have some money to buy some games that come out, so expect me to be getting PBR, Galaxy, and Brawl around the time they are released.
So if you don't see me around these boards as much, you'll know why. Just thought I'd let you guys in on my absence. I start next week.
Check it.
Nbbowler's agenda:
1. Slave away for a week
2. Get paycheck ($200)
3. Cash it and go crazy and spend most of it in a day
I work 5 days a week, and for (I'm guessing) 6-7 hours, so...
6.5 x (7 x 5) = 6.5 x 35 = $227.50/wk (before deductions)
Not a bad haul, if I do say so myself. However, I don't exactly know the park hours, since this is the first year its been open.
I'm not gonna cash it all, since I'm (forced to be) putting it in savings and checking. My mom says I'll probably only get about $35 spending money per week.

I either get 6.50 or 7.50.
wow, your mom's, um, not nice...
mine's a lot worse though, believe it or not.
i get $7 or $8 an hour dpending on what i'm working on.
i have a summer job too, but i only work weekends, for the most part. i'll get maybe $132 a week ($7*8hrs*2days). i get paid cash though and i chose how much to put in the bank. when i was trying to get my wii i had $300 in a savings account and another $175 or so in cash and i all but emptied it out, but i'm sitting on another $220 i plan to put most of back into the account. i need to keep $7.50 on hand so i can pay back a friend's grandfather for buying my ticket for spider man 3 and taking me to see it.
towards the end of the summer there is a 1 month stretch (at least) where i'll be getting up at 4:30am to go in to work and won't get back home until after 9:30pm. i'll get close to $2,500 just from that. all in cash. there's also little tidbits and stuff before hand at the same place just not as big that i'll get plenty of hours in, as well as weddings and parties and stuff that'll be less hours but every second helps.
i'm a dishwasher for a restaraunt and a caterer alongside my dad. for the dishwashing i get $7/hr, and for catering work i get $8/hr. most of the income for the business comes from the catering part, and most of that comes from catering to the state owned military installment accross the street (camp williams/ volk field).
i'll stay busy all summer, and by the end of it i'll be loded, at least until i get the fancy new laptop i want.
putting the money into savings is the best way to go. out of my weekly paychecks, i keep maybe $20. and if i didnt use the money from last week, i just put it all in the bank. i hate spending money on things that i dont need, and putting it in the bank and making sure my cards are in a safe place that i'd never go ensures that i have the money available to use when i need it or want something so bad i'd die without it (like when i bought the Wii).
congratulations

I'm stilling waiting to hear if i got the job I applied to >.>
Good luck, WR.
I'm still working on my father to see if he'll let me take like 2 days out of my school schedule (if not on Fall Break) to go to the E for All Expo. He said that MAYBE when I get money in savings and I can pay for it on my own, I can go. I'm planning on saving my summer job money (with a little to spend here and there) to go to this expo.
6.50 an hour?!
Oh, I'm guessing minimum wage is much lower in the US...
Here in Canada we get a min. of 7.25 $ an hour >.>
And they usually pay us 8$ an hour, we consider anything below 8$ an hour not worth our time >.>
Congrats nevertheless!
Its the US after all. ^_^
yeah but canadian $ is worth slightly less than US $ so after the conversion it's actually slightly less. and you've got taxes and stuff too. after you figure the stuff taken out of the $5.50 an hour (about) for minimum wages here in the US you're left with about $3.50 an hour. that's why i like getting paid cash-no taxes. FU george bush jr., i aint giving you my money to spend on "fixing" iraq, especially when that's not even what you originally set out to do (his daddy did, but phail'd. still no osama binladen.).
Yeah, Char; Minimum right now is $5.15. It will get raised 70 cents in July, then another 70 cents 6 months later, and a final 70 cents 6 months after that, so the new minimum will be $7.25 next July.
sweet, i didn't know that. in a year i'll be making a few $ less an hour because i'll end up getting a paycheck or even a salary (i wish) and the actual wages will increas, but not enough to compensate for the F***ing taxes.
WOO congrats man.........Money=FTW........Work=FTL
I'm going to try to apply for a job at the local grocery store with my resume sometime next week because tomorrow is my last day of school. I also got a job at the school last Summer, and told them I was interested again and if they needed anyone just call me up.
Money=FTW........Work=FTL
thats the horrible contemplation of what I am stuck in currently
Hahah!
Lucky!!
I am only mowing for a summer job....
The difference between american and cnadain isn't much.
And we don' get taxed if our annual salary is below 8000$.
We're getting a raise in minimum wage as well!
But I doubt it'll do anything because no one goes for a job below 8$ an hour anyway.
On a side note: I also just got a job! 9.50$ an hour! I'll be starting in a week or two.
And it goes up to 12$ an hour at night shift o.O I guess I'll be working nights on fridays :p
That's right, folks. As of Saturday, I have received word that I am officially EMPLOYED for a summer job that pays $6.50 an hour.
I am too now except mine is $7.00 an hour
5.50 an hour off the books. it pays good
