I don't know which game to get. I've been looking at FFIII for awhile, i've heard alot of great things about this game. Also, Pokemon diamond has everyone talking too. I actually have to say I've never really played a pokemon game, thats why im thinking of getting pokemon. Then I'm looking at this Etrain Odyssey that came out this week as well. Has anyone picked Etrain Odyssey up yet? It sounds pretty neat but i can't decide which one. I hate asking people "which game should i get" because each persons taste in games is different, but I'm just looking for some opinions... Thanx for your help! =)
i havent really played another RPG besides pokemon, but you'll like it if you dont mind some of the goofy pokemon.
If you never played a Pokemon I dont think you'd like it, Too many things to get used too, and all the Pokemon will be new to you, final fantasy is easy to get used too, but probably shorter.
i was thinking of getting that but then pokemon came out.
FFIII IS FTW, but its online isnt nothing great.
i'll give it try on gamefly.
i never played a FF game other than a little bit of CC on the GCN once at a store i think, and i didn't care for it too much. obviously the FF series has to be good, otherwise square wouldn't still be here, but it's still something to think about. Pokemon diamond i got on launch day (with a useless ds carry case packed in with the box) and at first i thought the experiance would be the same as the later GBA games, but then i tried going back and playing emerald and i was like WTF, nevermind. either way you can't lose, though.
Hmmm, tough choice. FF3 and Diamond/Pearl are great games. I think it comes down to whether or not you want a classic RPG with magic, and leveling up your characters. If you want those classic ones like Golden Sun get FF3. If not, go for Pokemon.
Go for pokemon Big Grin
Pokemon Diamond and Pearl are better overall experiences than FF-III. Pokemon has plenty to keep you hooked for several months, but once you finish Final Fantasy III (which isn't hard) then that's really it, besides training up all of the classes. And that does nothing for you.

I recommend Pokemon.
i agree with lemon head pokemon can take months . . . years i've wasted many an hour in my pokemon games each gen has over 100 something hours and my diamond is already 20 hours short of 200 so ya it is a great rpg to play and i love that it uses all the features of the ds so i put my vote for pkmn
If you're still deciding, lemme help you out. After playing all 3 I can safely give my opinion without too much 'ong wut am i tlkin aboot?'

If you want a long game get Pokemon. It's fun, the pokedex has like 493 pokemon you can get, and you have a plethora of different things you can do, and I really mean a plethora. That's where this game shines, it isn't just a sequel like other games where the most you can expect is an update in the Pokemon roster. This game has TONS of new features that will keep you hooked like a crack addict. It's the same old Pokemon feel, but with gangs of features catering to both new and old fans. The online play is great, touch-screen commands are great, and no silly wanabe leaps in innovation are great. With all of the things there are in this game, it could seriously last you the entire summer. Things I don't like is, some battles in the game require hours of training your pokemon, if you're like me, and just wanna play the damn thing then that ain't gonna happen, grinding is required and if you're not a big fan of Pokemon then this is a MAJOR turn-off. Also, the thing is once you get bored you're DONE. It's almost impossible to enjoy it again after you don't like it and you just wasted a $. I know alot of games are hard to get back into but this game, you have no chance. Overall the pros outweigh the cons, because the cons are basically, "if you're not a fan of pokemon this isn't the game for you" but hey, if you ARE a fan, then it's like pokesex in your pants 24/7.

Final Fantasy 3 is a lengthy game as well, and took me 43 hours to complete. Others might have finished faster, but when I play RPG's I like to talk to EVERYBODY, even if they're guards, I wanna talk to them and that's just me, but it's still a lengthy game nonetheless. You have twenty-two jobs, and a secret job. Every class has their own unique abilities and and you ultimately decide whether your party will succeed or fail. A little bit of luck during an important battle can also effect the length of the game as well. An example of this would be you entering a battle against one of the games various bosses. The boss gets to attack twice per turn. If he chooses to attack your weakest character twice, then that character may or may not die. IF they do die, you may want to consider restarting your system. For starters, you cannot buy pheonix downs, thus making them items only to be used in the utmost emergencies. Also, if you finish a battle with a character knocked out, then that character will not recieve the experience that the others gained from the battle thus making that character lagging behind the rest for the rest of the game. To me, having one character always level up one battle behind the others bugs me to death. Music is good too, but hey, it's Final Fantasy. Cinematics surprise you if this is the first time you've seen CGI on the DS. My gripes with the game? There's nothing innovating, there's nothing new. It's Final Fantasy weird haircuts and turn-based still alive and well. Another thing is although each class has their own unique ability, that's what it is, ONE ability. A thief has two with steal and flee but everyone else? One. Last bad thing about it is the random encounters. Yes, alot of RPG's have random encounters but in other games, after a while you can feel when you're about to fight. Not this game. You can seriously get into a fight every 5 steps for 5 mins, and that get's VERY annoying. Overall my gripes are small and I'm really nitpicking but flaws are flaws.

Etrian Odyssey... just buy it.

I recommend the games like this, Pokemon > EO >>> FFIII

The only advantage I think Pokemon has over EO is the sheer amount of time you'll be playing Pokemon. If you really want me to express how I feel about EO, I'll write it, but right now I'm tired of typing. <_<

This is my opinion, it is not fact. I'm sure there are things I got wrong, and I'm sure many disagree. He asked for my opinion and I gave it.
Hey Guys, thanx for your help =) and ricky... thanx for the mini reviews! i ended up getting EO which is proving to be alot of fun, its tough with alot of grinding... but its a fun game. i've gotten a good sense of accomplishment from the little bit i've played it. I also think i'm gonna buy pokemon... i've never played it so i feel like im missing out plus all the features is has just makes me wanna play... GTS, online play, ect... it just seems like a must have. Thanx again for the help... you guys are great
Although you have already made your choice, may I suggest Secret of Mana for your next RPG buy?

Seriously, try it out. It's a great hack and slash game with a decent story.

Edit: I meant Children of Mana!!
You'll like Pokemon if you decide to buy it. It will keep you hooked for a long time.
I ended up getting both pokemon and etrains. Etrain's is great, but got put on the "I will play later" list after i got diamond, but i havn't been playing that much either being that summer is pretty busy :-P Also Secret of Mana is a great game, so im sure children of mana would be a good one. I must admit i dont really remember secret of mana being that it's been like over 10 years since i played it back in the SNES days
I hates pokemons....

The games are pretty good but the shows are just pure murder....

Any game that premieres in America is pretty bad xD (One Piece, Yugioh, etc.)

If you like old school games, I'd suggest to pick up Etrian Odyssey. The game relys on luck and has a good longevity.

If not, then wait for Zelda =D.

well zelda goes without saying =D i cant wait for that!! I def liking etrains... infact all this talk about it is making me want to play it
