People were understandably upset when companies decided next-generation meant charging everyone $10 more for their games -- especially when the price was applied to last-generation ports like GUN and Tony Hawk's American Wasteland. Nonetheless, most have sucked it up at this point, but no one anticipated Sony would actually up the ante when PlayStation 3 dropped in November.

Yet SCEA president Kaz Hirai isn't promising a $59.99 price tag for PS3 games this fall. In an interview with PSM, the Sony leader explained. So, what I can say now is, I think it would be a bit of a stretch to think that we could suddenly turn around and say "PS3 games now $99.99" I don't think the consumers expect the software pricing to suddenly be double," he told the magazine. "So, if it becomes a bit higher than fifty-nine bucks don't ding me, but, again, as I said, I don't expect it to be a hundred bucks."

In other words, consumers should expect PS3 games to cost somewhere between $59.99 and $99.99. He doesn't expect them to be a hundred dollars, but it's only a "stretch" to expect it. Have we moved back to the cartridge ages here? Wasn't disc-based media supposed to make everything cheaper? I don't want to remember how much my parent's paid for several of Square's older SNES releases during Christmas.

Sony's cocky enough to price their hardware above the competition, but we don't seriously expect them to change consumer expectations for software prices. We hope.

Thanks greaser lee!

First the system is over priced now the games whats next the controllers?
yea...its hard for the developers to not sell games for that much. It costs alot to make a game look good. Does ne1 know the cost of a blank Blue ray disk?
$30
my big bro. wanted a ps3...........he knows how much the system is but not the games
Hey, the Blu-ray discs aren't gonna be used for all games. Some are gonna be standard silver on the bottom, or maybe even black, but those cost like $20. I don't get it, all they need to do is burn the game onto the disc, that isn't expensive. They just need to make so much profit, it's just TOO much. We might just end up not getting PS3's, but the guy did say "I don't EXPECT it to be 59 dollars", so we still have a chance! *yay* But I think that Sony might have wasted a lot of money when they made all tose prototypes with no blu-ray, but then they *just* thought about it, and they spent another 2 years trying to get stupid blue on the PS3, it's so weird...
I see the way now... Sony's stupid with this one. The ps2 was great but this sucks. I'm getting a wii. lol
I'm still getting them all. I already got the XBOX360.
lol, as much as I hate to admit it i'll probably get all three too, i'm gonna need a blueray player Toungue
i feel so sorry for Sony fanboys...
I will get a PS3 after the price is below 300 or 200 so that will be years
Play$tation = $1000
Play$tation games = $59.99 - 99.99
Playing my Wii = Price (is) less

I won't be buying a blue ray because I think that HD-DVDs will win out in the long run. Cheaper and more companies will be onto it. BluRay will be the new 8 - tracks for our generation. Pricey pieces of crap!
years.Smile
these prices r killing me i wished theyed just put the price down a couple hundred dollars
After getting the special PS3 then a game 700$
I've just realised something.

If you wait a few years (5 or something stupid) and they knock 200 off the price... you go out and get one

a few hours later you realise that the games WILL NOT change price

so you'll still be paying 100 for the games...
But by that stage most of the games I want will have gone Platinum so their price will drop down.

BluRay will do just about as good as UMD has so far, its Sony's thing, bringing in new technology that costs alot. They didn't suck me in with the PSP but thats because the games sucked, for the PS3 they have pretty much got me 100%, just a few things I'm concerned about.

UMD always made me laugh

UMD = UNIVERSAL Media Disk

how universal is it... umm you can play them on a.. nope... hm... nope, just the PSP then

That is for new games atleast, but if you don't think that Sony like they did with the PS2 is going to announce a Greatest Hits line of games then you are crazy. You could probably pick up most of the games that have been out for over a year for just 20-30$ instead of 70-80$.

I'm probably going to get a PS3 in 5 years, or whenever it goes down to 250-300$, atleast I'll have a job by then.
