A developer walkthrough of ´Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix´ shows a marked improvement in Wii graphics, previously a bit of a sore spot with the Nintendo console. The video, courtesy of GameTrailers, shows off a level of graphics quality that is unprecedented on the Wii.

Not even close. A well designed Xbox game could perform this way. The problem with the Wii is that it lacks pixel shaders, and you can clearly see this in the screenshots. The lighting effects are also not present the way the Xbox 360 or PS3's CPU can handle them. You could notice the difference substantially here even on an SDTV.
That said, these graphics are nice compared to early Wii titles. Already the power of the Wii is being exposed, and the games are still looking presentable, which could help it sell. But I think the fact that you can use the Wiimote as a wand is reason enough to get the Wii version.

As awesome as the wii is, and yes i do have to defend it from my friends on this point, does correctly as you put it have a 'sore spot' for graphics and i can honestly say that those visualisations (especially for a run of the mill movie game) are prett inspiring. I just can't wait to see what MP3 hits us with.

if a movie game is pushing the Wii's abilities like this, then other companies should follow suit soon enough. everyone has started the realize the Wii has better abilities than it was first thought to have, it's just in the hands of the developers to use those abilities to make a graphically good game
Heh, I think this may actually end up being a good game. I've played some of the other Harry Potter games and they weren't bad. This one looks good.

It's not breathtakeing, probobly because of the video quality, but it is a step up, so I guiess Wii's graphics do get better over time!
