I was curious to know who on here has an HD TV or has a close family member who does. Close family can be, brother, sister, mom, dad, grandma, or grandpa.

HD TVs are televisions that can run 720p, 1080i, or 1080p
we (technically) own three.

Two +1080p monitors

and a big 42" samsung 1080p

I've got a CRT somewhere that can do 720p too but I don't count 720 as actual HD
Make sure to vote then so we can get a tally.
I do not own one. Nor do I intend on getting one until the price drops.
Your lucky Lemon, if I waited for prices to drop where I'd be happy with them, I'd never buy anything new.
I have one in the living room (it doesn't fit in my room).
1080i LCD and 720p CRT. My parents also have a 1080i LCD.

BTW, here is a nice deal on a 720p/1080i 42" Plasma ($599 + ~$60 s/h) for anyone that is looking to join our club.

It's called patience.

Why the heck would I go out and vomit cash out for an upgraded version of something I have. My current TV works fine and I have no necessary need for a HD TV.

That'd be like me going out and buying a Blu-Ray player.

I love to have the newest gadgets, but I'm also a price shopper (for the most part). I base most of it on a cost to benefit ratio. For instance, I'd love to have a 1080p HDTV, but 1080i's are so economical in comparison, and thus it is not beneficial enough to purchase the higher end model when I probably won't notice the difference anyway (or even make use of it very often). The two 32" HDTV (1080i) LCD's that I have purchased were around $400 shipped to my door each, and at that price, they were worth it. On the other hand, things like the Samsung Blackjack (i607) I purchased at full price right after it's US release, while now, just a few months down the road, they are less than $100 (though with service contract).

That being said, I'm trying really hard to not buy stuff right now and save as much money as possible. I can't believe I haven't jumped on the HD DVD Toshiba player for $250 (1080i model with 5 free HD DVD's) that's been going around, or the 12" dual core laptop for $700, or the 42" plasma I posted earlier for $600, or.... well, you get the point.

Maybe it's because I'm a University student. That's the biggest constraint on my money spending. Considering that once I finish my course next year I'll be in a AU$15,000ish HECS debt. I don't have to pay it directly, but its still a heavy debt to carry around as they take a certain % of the money I'll earn in the future.

I'll buy a HD TV eventually, but I just don't need it yet.

how exactly does your education system work down under anyways...do they garnish your wages after graduation?

When you go to University you have two options:
1) Pay your fees up front so you have no other money to worry about.
or
2) Agree to HECS which means once you finish the course and get a job, they take a small amount of your pay to pay off part of the debt until it's completely gone.
i've got a 40" 1080p LCD. i think i posted a pic of it on here.

youre definitely gonna be waiting for long time. the next big tech is OLED. after that it's could probably be paper-thin LCD's.

besides a wii, it seems thats the only next gen system you have which would make your defense understandable. playing gamecube games on an HDTV was excruciating painful, but it did make RE4 look a little better. i was now able to see the laser sights. Hehe

My family still has a tube.
And all my close relatives have the same. Including Uncles/Aunts.

My family is like LMX. Wait till the price drops.
At least my dad. Toungue

We only bought a DVD player once they completely pulled VHS from rental stores :p

This isn't even about the Wii. I hardly play it.

It's about the fact I can't justify spending that much cash on technology I don't need yet.

I apologize, I didn't write that to be a jerk. I was being serious. I'm very good about looking up info and finding the best deals, but when there's something I want, I usually find a way to get it.

Ya I just got a nice 42" hd tv for my 360.
when do the wireless HD TVs come out? that will be awesome...just plug it in...
nah we have 4 CRTs and 1 LCD but its only 480i. Ireland is behind on HD

You're talking wireless HDMI?
That'd kick ass but people haven't been making peripherals with it built in. Even the 360 elite is just regular HDMI
