Here's part of the official statement from Nintendo of America President Reggie Fils-Aime:

"Virtually all of the employees affected by the relocation plan have now responded with their decisions, and approximately four of every ten have agreed to make the move to either New York or the Bay Area, in keeping with our original expectations."

thats quite a bit less than half for you non math majors out there,

why arent more staff staying on????

While we might think that working for Nintendo would be a dream, many of their employees probably look at it as just another job. Many are not prepared to move their entire family to a new city due to various reasons (significant other has a job at current place, don't want to change child's school, family nearby, etc) or may just want to take the severance package (which is usually a lot of money) and find a similar local job. I'm fairly certain the numbers look different at different ends of the pay scale, with the majority of the highly paid executives moving with and lower paid employees electing the severance package. Not to say that the lower end people aren't important, but companies that make moves like this are generally smart enough to retain their most valuable people.
so you think 6 out of ten would be the norm for any companies relocation
