Although I don't have a DS i know it's not necasarry for you to use the Wi-Fi USB. Your router should work.

I have a wireless router and that works fine
but not all compatiable. you also may need to change the router frequencies and/or turn off the firewall/security program.
you shouldnt get the USB connector unless you have no access point.
