i just had a question with the rumor of nintendo releasing new hardware at E3,and talk of it being the next handheld system. do you think that this is a good idea for nintendo? i personally dont think that it would be smart of Nintendo to do this what do you guys think?
For me I don't think this would be smart for Nintendo business wise. The DS/ Lite are still selling and they could continue to do this. For me personally I would like them to do this though because I am one without a DS and i am looking forward to buying their next handheld.
If they did something like this, mayby they could give us a sneak peak of the next gameboy?
Nope, the DS Lite is selling like crazy and still has legs, and we don't see any competition on the horizon. Announcing a new handheld could even stall their DSL sales (as people would instead wait for the newer system to release).
^ Very good point, ok forget it Nintendo don't give us a sneak peak!

with the Gameboy, they had a new version every two years. the DS has been around over two soon to be three. so to see one wont be surprsing, but it'll ne interesting to see what they improve on.
EDIT: just read the past posts. good point by joker. it'd be too soon to show anything. lets see if the PSP cam get their act togther.
mayby they could just improve the graphics significantly..
So it would be like PSP but Nintendo style

Yea, putting out the next gen gameboy would hinder DSL sales, so I don't think it'll happen.

Actually, they put out a new version of the Gameboy that often, not a new Gameboy. If you look, they released the NDS in 2004, with the NDS Lite in 2006. So yes, they are following that path, but it's only been a year since the last "version" was released.
Hmm. So we could see the new gameboy next year at e3

I doubt it, but maybe. The DSL matches well with the Wii, which is Nintendo's flagship right now. I could see another redesign at best, but otherwise, there is no reason to mess with something that is doing so well.
I would be funny if this turned into a race for screens, like shaving razors and blades did. Sony would release a three screened handheld monster, with Nintendo countering back with not four, but FIVE screens. Sony would then shift their focus to making disposable three screened handhelds that you threw away after the batteries ran out (knowing Sony, about 30 minutes). After that, they would start adding gimmicky features like extra conditioning strips, so you could clean your fingers before and after playing.

omg. that is the funniest thing joker has ever said on this site. LMAO. i luv it
at most the only hardware announcement i could see for the DS would be a DS with a small harddrive and built in internet capabilities, like the Opera browser installed instead of coming on a game card, expanded online Picto Chat, maybe some sort of messenger presented through AIM or Yahoo or whatever. it'd technically be hardware, but not making much difference

Don't elaborate on why you think this isn't "smart".

would you care to elaborate on why he shouldn't? these threads are for discussions, so please discuss why 5pid3r shouldn't say what he thinks
yay then people agree with me ^.^ i def. dont want to see another handheld me soo happy to see you all agree
I don't see this at all.
The DS is breaking through to new markets in the handheld space, and it's the current worldwide leader of all games hardware sales. The system and it's ingenuity still has plenty of life left in it, and I think it's important for Nintendo to milk this, and not to upset the new customers that just purchased new machines.
To E3, I think this year's E3 for Nintendo is going to be all about games. Nintendo will be focused on showing the exclusives, especially those coming to the Wii, and the first party killer apps. They have to innovative pieces of hardware, selling faster than anything else, moving rapidly into the market, now they need to show what these systems will do (Brawl, Loz: PH, MP3: C, etc).
No for me,
I still love my dsl
This would be one of the stupidest things they could do.
DSLs are still being sold out, with no competition to slow it down, why would they?
I personaly just got my DSL a few months ago, and don't want to see a new handheld from Nintendo for another 2 years. New versions of the same thing is ok though.
If they are making a second one. I'm guessing they'll implement gyroscopes into it.
So it'll basically be a wiimote, with a screen, and have its own games, portable of course. (And still include toushscreen.) It can also flip up like the DS.
I have no idea where else they could go.
NO! No new handhelds for a few years please. It'd be crazy to release a new DS while they are on such a roll with the current one. And it would probably get outsold considering it'd probably cost more.
