Full Version: Nintendo Responds to Manhunt 2's AO rating

Games made for Nintendo systems enjoy a broad variety of styles, genres and ratings. These are some of the reasons our Wii and Nintendo DS systems appeal to such a broad range of people. But as with books, television and movies, different content is meant for different audiences. That's why the ESRB provides ratings to help consumers understand the content of a game before they purchase it," the company said in a press statement. "As stated on Nintendo.com, Nintendo does not allow any AO-rated content on its systems."

Rockstar now HAS to get an M rating or else they won't even be able to get the game on the Wii, where its really being pressed for!

WOW big n putting me down!huh?

This isn't a huge surprise; Nintendo has already stated that there would be NO Ao games on the Wii.

sucks!

Well, not much to say here. But you're gonna have to give in eventually Nintendo. I don't want this game, but if its AO and you don't allow its release then you'll neglecting alot of people who have expressed interest in getting this game for the Wii.
*Reflects all Wii titles so placed in Nintendo Wii section

We take it back -- Manhunt 2 is in a more dire situation in the US than we first thought, because Nintendo will not even license or allow playback of the controversial title with an AO rating. Looks like Pachter was right: Rockstar is going to bleed money over this title, because they're either going to have to scrap the game altogether, or simply edit Manhunt 2 down until they can wrangle another rating.

It's not just Nintendo, either -- Sony's taken the same hard line on Manhunt 2. Looks like poor Daniel Lamb and Leo Kaspar are at risk from more than just the Pickman Project.

So it's true then. Nintendo and apparently Sony are saying no, full stop, to Adult-Only games. What does this say for Manhunt 2 and Rockstar? It says that they are, excuse the slang, screwed. While the UK and Ireland have banned the game completely, the USA have implied their AO rating to the game meaning it will not be displayed on shelves.

This will apparently not make a difference though because if what we here is true, Nintendo an Sony are both forbidding the game from sale on their consoles, which in my opinion seems strange for Sony in particular, who apparently want to be the Newfoundland for "hardcore gamers".

Finally something they both can agree on.

Wait, Nintendo won't "allow playback" of Ao titles? If this is going to be an automatic download that'll block all Ao titles, that really pisses me off.
No of course ot, they just aren't allowing the sale of it under a Wii license
Umm, then whoever wrote this needs to take a second stab:

"We take it back -- Manhunt 2 is in a more dire situation in the US than we first thought, because Nintendo will not even license or allow playback of the controversial title with an AO rating. "
I say good for them Toungue
I wish everyone would stop their vendettas against Manhunt 2. If you don't like the game or what it stands foe, just stop talking, because we know.
Again with Manhunt? It seems to be everywhere right now and I can only assume it's because of the rating and not the greatness (sarcasm) of the game. Nintendo, sorry to say but it's impossible to say that your console is for everyone and then you turn around and won't allow games to be made for a mature audience... contradict much?
Its not just Nintendo. NOBODY lets AO games on their consoles (except PC). It looks bad for the company to have Adult Only Games

^-I agree-^
Manhunt is getting waaay too much attention, because it's Ao and Ninty doesn't allow Ao.
There are too many threads about it already. I'm tired of hearing about Manhunt 2, personally.
That is all d:

Yeah, but if kids CAN'T buy it anyways, they should have nothing to worry about, it's a game for goodness sake.
Honestly, guys.

No companies allow AO games on there systems. Sony is rejecting it too. Why does it matter if Nintendo rejects this? It's digustingly wrong and frankly, unless they tone it down, it shouldn't be released anywhere.
*Praying* Please God don't have this made into some sort of a Mario game!

I wonder what Nintendo thought the game was gonna be like..I mean do they not have youtube or did they just think a game called Manhunt might be some sort of a hide and go seek sort of game. I think Nintendo played us all. We thought we'd see something revolutionary on the Wii by getting this game (though I'd never buy it), then at the last minute Nintendo goes....gosh you can do what to a guys crouch...well I never?!?!?!?!?

That's what we in the US would call an opinion, and they generally vary from person to person. Censorship is wrong, m'kay?

Censorship is ok when we know there's thousands of parents out there that don't give a rat's ass when it comes to what their kids do. You got all these parents who blindly go out and buy their child another "distraction" so mommy and daddy can have sex and have more kids they don't wanna raise.

This game was over-the-top...it'll come out with an M rating, and we can dream of what might have been.

Anyone here remember Tengen?

bear with me for a second.  Tengen created games that were not licensed by nintendo.  these games found a way to block the NES encription.

what does this mean

We might see an AO Wii game after all, it just won't have the fabled nintendo seal of (kiddie) quality

also, you might see another "hot coffee" in the works that can only be unlocked with a mod chip.

the possibilities are endless

*Edit*
there's always the PC
