In some breaking news today the ESRB has added to there listing: Dr. Mario Wii. That’s right; Dr. Mario is back under the knife in an apparent third game. We had heard from IGN’s Matt Cassamassina that there was some “old franchise that was going to be revived. At the time he couldn’t say what game, and is no doubt still under embargo. But that’s not something the ESRB has to worry about which has now given us the heads up on the fact that Dr. Mario is heading Wii-ward.

We probably all remember the NES version, which was the debut of Dr. Mario. But, there was also the Nintendo 64 game, which would mean that this game has seen 3D (or slight 3D) so putting it on the Wii wouldn’t be as huge of a leap, as NES to Wii would have. The real question is how will this game be played as? Will this game still be the classic puzzle game or will Nintendo be leaning towards a more of a Trauma Center approach to the game. Either way, Nintendo fans are going to be very happy when Nintendo officially announces this game.

Me personally, I’ve only played a Dr. Mario game once in my life, but if this game takes full control of the Wii remote and invites cool new gameplay I’ll probably consider it. I’m sure though, being a game from Nintendo, we should expect something totally new and innovative that will re-define Dr. Mario, at least, that’s what I’m hoping. Sense nothing has been confirmed its open to debate.

I never played Dr. Mario, so I'm not sure what it's like... This sounds cool, though.

Dr. Mario was like Tetris, except you matched up the colored ends of pills. I swear Nintendo wants us all doing mushrooms or eating pills...Next thing ya know JT is gonna be bitchin about that next.

I wonder what will come of this. I somewhat doubt that we'll see a Trauma Centre outing for our favourite Doctor.

i hope it's not too tetris-like. don't get me wrong, many of those games were fun, but i've just played too many to care anymore. puzzle games are my fave type of game, but i just can't play tetris like games anymore.

it would be sweet if there was an abstract strategy game collection for the wii (w/ good abstract strategy games). stuff like go, chess, othello, the gipf project games (these games would make a nice collection in and of themselves), tafl (teutonic forerunner of chess), chinese chess, etc.

I kinda agree with you, it would really be cool if they could reinvent he Dr. Mario franchise into something more.

i dont think this is good news at all. see im prolly one of the biggest mario games on this site. i have every mario game for every system. with the exception of marios paccross and dr. mario. i just dont consider these games mario games. they really arent that good. seriously, if this new game is going to be like tetris, who would buy it for 50 bucks?

i never really got into doctor mario but i'll try and steal the game for a bit off one of my mates if any of them get it:/
