Have you ever wondered what Nintendo is doing for your environment? Well, our good friends over at GoNintendo recieved an Email from reader Sithmaster15 with some very interesting information. He had emailed Nintendo about what they are doing for the environment and and got this response from a Nintendo customer service rep.

Nintendo is very concerned with doing our part to help preserve the environment. We’re always researching new products and procedures to make our products and operations as environmental-friendly as possible.

Some things Nintendo is already doing:

    In our offices:
  • We recycle the paper we use company-wide.
  • We limit our use of colored paper, since it’s not easily recycled.
  • We purchase recycled paper towels, report covers, message pads, and writing pads.
  • We currently recycle more than 70% of the waste that is generated at our headquarters.
  • We actively promote the recycling of aluminum cans and glass in our corporate cafeterias.

    In our products:
  • We use at least 80% recycled paper in all of our shipping packaging.
  • We no longer use Styrofoam in our Game Pak or Game Boy packaging.
  • All of our instruction manuals are printed on recycled paper.
  • We no longer use plastic Game Pak covers.
  • Our clamshell packaging is recyclable and most recycling centers accept it.
  • We require that manufacturers not use any banned substances (such as lead, mercury, etc.) in components, nor use them in the manufacturing process for any components used inside of our products. This requirement also extends to suppliers of packaging, marketing materials, and other items used in the marketing and distribution of our products.

So, thank you Nintendo for doing your part to save the world!

Go Nintendo! Big GrinBig GrinBig GrinBig Grin Keep helping the enviroment.
Subliminal Plug lol. But that's really awesome that Nintendo is helping the environment.
of course that's what they say, but i bet we'll see something if someone showed up unexpected in person.
Yay for NINTENDO! Keep Helping The Environment ^_^
Just another reason why Nintendo rules.
W00T rite on Nintendo, no wonder your the best! Smile
i'm glad they're concerned.

but i do wish that people would realize that most forms of paper recycling are not only not helping the environment, but are actually worse for it. the bleaching chemicals that are used in most recycling processes and the dyes and inks that are removed have to go somewhere. it would be much better for the environment if we just shredded the paper and used it for mulch for plants, bedding for animals or for packaging material. over 90% of all paper made from scratch in the US comes from tree farms (where trees are replanted, rather than just cutting forests clean). we have over 3 times the trees in this nation that we did in 1920. and recycled paper products, typically, are more expensive and of lower quality than fresh paper products. it not only makes no sense from an economic standpoint, but also from an environmental standpoint.

however, kudos to the big N on the recycling of aluminum (boxite mining tears environments to shreds and recycled aluminum is actually cheaper and easier to produce) and glass, as well as their refusal to use styrofoam packaging or plastic covers.
I didn't know that, learn something new everydayBig Grin
I really like this whole idea. Hopefully other companies will follow Nintendo's lead and do the same.
doubt it. the governments regualations arent strict enough. ad companies philosophies are money first, caring how they make it second. the only way they'll change is if theres an immediate threat that needs changing right way.
At least they're doing something. Something is always better than nothing.

Agreed, gov. regulations aren't strict at all...
At least in America...

Not sure about Europe though...
