Full Version: No Wi-Fi Support for Corruption?

Fans of NGamer magazine were in for a real treat this week with a preview of Retro Studios' much anticipated game "Metroid Prime 3: Corruption".

I myself, bought this magazine and was extremely excited by the preview, it being the first we in Europe have had in a while now. While it declared the usual things; 20th August release in US, TBC in UK; it was still in interesting read.

One thing of interest to me, in an entirely awful way, was the last paragraph.

Multiplayer is, it seems, completely off the menu now. Unless there's something they've managed to keep incredibly quiet, Corruption is entirely an offline, solo experience. But with the level of polish we expect to see from this game - the real hardcore flagship title for Wii - we're probably not going to miss it. Bring it on, Samus.

I am probably the person on WiiLoaded who is most looking forward to potential Wi-Fi Connection support for Metroid Prime 3, but if I was being truthful to myself, then I would have to admit defeat at this point. There has been literally no mention of any form of multiplayer support for the "killer-app" title. Most developers when mentioning an upcoming game, like to boast about the "four player support" their game has or its "online functions", but Nintendo have kept their lips firmly shut on this one.

I know that there are many people here who do not mind whether the last installment to the Prime series has WFC functionality or not, but I still do. There are currently no online First-Person Shooters available on Wii, and with the release of Bungie's massive FPS, Halo 3, just around the corner, we want a title as to hold our ground with.

While saying this, I do of course acknowledge that one particular online game, HAL Laboratory's anxiously awaited Super Smash Bros. Brawl is going to be released at a similar date, and will be nearly, if even just as popular as Bungie's attempt, there is still one resting feeling in my mind.

Metroid Prime 3: Corruption is the last entry into the current series of the greatest Nintendo First-Person Shooter ever made.

Halo 3 is the last entry into the current series of the greatest Microsoft First-Person Shooter ever made.

Does anyone else feel that a bit of healthy competition between two flagship titles would have injected a bit of life into the current uninspired spell that has gripped the video games industry?

As always, your comments are greatly appreciated.

sux... i want online
Online isn't the be all and end all of Metroid.

Metroid is a single player experience anyway, online would be a mere bonus feature.
didnt matter to me. didnt really like the online for Metroid DS.
It's kind of like the same thing Rooster reportedd when it showed that MP3 had no offline multiplayer. But it's still up in the air. Like LMX said it's still up MP3 doesn't "have" to have online.
Online or I won't buy it. Then I would rent it and try it.

Muah
remember guys Nintendo could alway just announce online support two hours before the first copy of Metroid Prime 3 is released. it's never it with nintendo until you have a copy of the game in your hands. And even then they could always add a firmware update and allow online for it...

but I bet there will be online.
It HAS to be online.... even the DS title is online, and they delayed the Wii version nearly a year. That being said, I will buy the game for the first person experience. I might play online, occassionally.
i agree with joker, the game seems cool and enjoyable so i'll play it but online is just a plus.
A firmware update to add a whole multiplayer feature? Not likely Sad

Also, has anyone noticed that Nintendo aren't exactly as happy to release updates as Microsoft and Sony, and Nintendo's are never exactly "fun"
Talk about disapointing!
Many games that actually have a great 1 player mode really suck when it comes to multiplayer. Personally speaking, I'd rather have a coop online mode then the darn death match stuff that I would prefer to play on my computer. Metroid will be huge, and the same people who have always loved the series will love this game also.

I think if we had said "Online or screw you Nintendo", then we probably wouldn't have bought a Wii yet, because they (Nintendo) are way behind.
The last thing I want is for metroid to turn into Halo. Spend all that time and energy on making a great solo game.
Having online isn't going to turn it into Halo.
Wellllll

Here is my two scene...

I have basically given up on Metroid 3 online...
But, there is still the possibility to keep something like that as quite as it would need to be. He didn't say that there 100% sure that there isn't going to be online. But hey, you never know! We may see some great big trailer pop up and show some online or something!

The multiplayer could be like MP2, largely forgotten...

what could you do in the MP2?
There were two modes for up to 4 people. One was who ever got the most kills at the end of the time limit wins and the other was whoever collected the most coins at the end of the time limit won. You get coins by shooting/killing you opponent.
I am happy with just the single player on this one me thinks....as long as i still get my online for SSBB Big Grin
