So, i'm hearing all these storys about how 360s keep breaking and "ther Ring of Death" and i have no idea what this is all about..

So could you guys please explan to me what is going on to all these systems so that it dosn't happen to mine when i get it?
Well there are so many ways of fighting it... a friend of mine wraped her Elite 360 in a towel... placed it upside down and turned it off... then took the game out... turned it back on to recover her saved data!

o.O
But seriously, i need to know since i don't wanna brake it!

PS - A towel??? XD
Well if you just maintain it correctly it'll be fine. Mine broke, but I wasnt paying any attention to the retards playing mine. It was in a place where it didnt get any air and it was extremely dusty on the inside. I just switched it out for a used one at work and made sure it was in great condition.
Ohh , ok...

So if i maintain it in a good condition, it will work just great?

Sweetness!
pretty much.

but if it fails, MS will replace it.
kk

thanks JM!

Rep for you!
This will show you what it is. You should also see the next two after that. :3
When your Xbox 360 starts to overheat, your green ring around the power button goes from green to progressivly more red. Thus "the red ring of death". Hopefully in a couple months Microsoft will release their upgraded "inards" and take care of this issue.

rofl. no it does not.

Well then explain what each red quandrant actually means when it turns red or blinks red or have you been one of the only people who haven't actually had any issue with your 360?
it's simple, really.
green = okay
red = broken

there is no gradient from green to red.
Here's a better representation of what the lights actually mean when they change to red...

As mentioned, each quadrant on the set of flashing red lights indicates a different issue. If all of the lights but the first section are flashing, this means a general hardware failure has occurred. There is little to be done other than trying to unhook and reattach your cables. This problem is a sure sign a visit to the repair center is in your console’s future. If the problem is indicated in the second quadrant of the system, it is merely overheating. As too many hours of GRAW will do that to a unit, the proposed cure here is to unplug the unit from the power supply, let it sit to cool down, and perhaps begin scouting for a better location to store your precious investment.

A problem indicated in the third quadrant of the Xbox 360 ring of light is diagnosed as a hardware failure. Once again, try re-inserting all of your cords and cables, but this problem should definitely be dealt with by the repair center. If all four lights are flashing on the front of your console, this is perhaps the easiest problem to fix. This is an issue with the AV cable not being properly inserted into the back of the console. The cure? Just make sure the cord “clicks” once it has been inserted into the unit. If that doesn’t work, of course call the repair center, but the four lights are the easiest of the problems to rectify.

cool, but there's still is no gradient of green to red.
Ok, i am still a little confused in how to stop the ROD from happening....

CZMQ tells me not to play it alot, while JM tells me just to keep it in good condition....

Is there a firm. 100% answer?

From what I understand, it's a design flaw with the PCB warping and the GPU becoming detatched. Technically, it will happen to all Xbox 360s over time due to heat.

ummm idk

It's not that the Elite does it more, it's the current design of the 360 (overall) issue.
