Mwahahaha! Part of my birthday present from my girlfriend was a betta fish.

Are you sure? Having many many different fish over time, most if not all will come to the glass when I walk by, and go crazy when I open the lid to give them food.
no, it's not just the typical "ooh, someones coming it means food." they're very territorial fish, and when something new comes along, they're scared yet protective. Ur reacts differently to my hand than anybody elses when we feed him, even if we do it the same exact way. he'll see my hand, start swimming wildly around the jar, and swim to the surface. if i were to stick my hand in the water, he'd go right up to it and not care. but when i have my friends try, he flares and doesn't go near them.

betta fish are totally worth it. they're inexpensive, last for years, and easy to take care of. and if you forget to feed them once or twice, they wont die...they can go a few days without food ^^
Anyone that wants a fish and doesn't know much about them, the betta is the best fish to go with. I would spend a little time researching them first, but they are by far the easiest fish to keep.
or anybody that wants a pretty fish :3
oh, and never buy a female betta unless you plan to use her for breeding. they're not that pretty. it's the male betta's that are the colorful, vibrant ones.
